Reggie
Once again thank you very much for taking the time to search for this couple.
It really is a puzzle trying to find the family throughout the census I have retained all the information given to be able go through it slowly
Kind regards

Jane Purnell married James Pannell. I originally posted Jane Purnell's baptism as I thought it might have been a variant spelling of Panell, but maybe it wasn't after all, and Pannell was her married name.
Name: James Pannell baker<<<<<<< Spouse Name: Jane Purnell<<<<<<<<<< Record Type: Marriage Event Date: 30 Aug 1844 Parish: St Pancras Parish Chapel Borough: Camden Father Name: Thomas Pannell carpenter Spouse Father: John Purnell-dead<<<<<<<<<<<< Register Type: Parish Register
Maybe she wasn't free to marry George?
EDIT - Sorry, a complete red herring, as the above couple are still together in 1861:

Hi Folks
I have been trying to find the marriage of the George and his wife Jane Grant over a long time now and have come to the conclusion that the couple did not marry.
I now have the Birth Cert for Agnes H Grant giving me her mothers name as Jane Grant formerly Panell.
I have searched for her birth and marriage to no avail, but, found this on the 1881 census
Name: Jane P. Grant Age: 58 Estimated birth year: abt 1823 Relationship to Head: Wife Spouse: George Grant Gender: Female Where born: St Georges In Earl, Middlesex, England Civil Parish: Kensington County/Island: London Country: England Street address: 29 Tobin St Marital Status: Married Education:
