Dear Jax and Dea,
Thank you very much for your advice and discernment of what might have happened to the family.and to explain why George changed his occupation. I have joined Ancestry to see the records of the marriage and the mysterious 1851 Census. I do wonder how they managed to read it!
Best wishes, Helix 14.

George was, in deed, a nailmaker in 1841.

On 1851 his mother is Farming 6 acres so it looks like they moved in with mum to work on the farm after his father died.?

Dear Everyone,
The Birth certificate for Ecclesfield Jane Denton has arrived today. As you said, the mother is indeed Hannah Haigh. George Denton's occupation is hard to read, but could be Nailmaker, which doesn't accord well with his later occupation of Farmer (Jane's Marriage Certificate 1865.)
Ecclesfield Jane was born on 27th October 1847, and the other Jane on 10th October 1847, so I don't think Jane Denton-later-Lodge's Death certificate is going to add any better confirmation.
Reggie, Please tell me where you found Jane Denton aet 3 in 1851--I can't find her at all in 1851. Also I can't find the Hannah Haigh/George Denton marriage at High Hoyland in 1835 which you were able to discover. Am I missing something here?some useful Skill or knack known to the experienced Genealogist?
I would not have been able to get this far without the help of all who have responded--thank you very much.
Best wishes, Helix 14.

Dear Reggie, and everyone,
Yes, I am sending for the birth certificate of Jane Denton of Ecclesfield. I am inclined to wait and see who the mother of that Jane is, before investigating further. Hannah Haxby or Hannah Haigh?
The mention of High Hoyland stirs an ancient memory of seeing High Hoyland church, then redundant , and being told someone in the past family married there. I don't live in the area unfortunately.
Your info on the 1851 census gives me a grandmother for future research--a bonus. I will return when I have the Birth Certificate for Jane Denton.
Thank you for your kind advice and help.
from Helix 14.

Dear All,
George Denton is described as a Farmer on Jane Denton's marriage certificate (25.11.1865--Barnsley Register office. Jane was 18 years of age, living in Bloomhouse Green, Mapplewell.
I haven't got Jane Denton's death certificate.

You are very welcome !

Glad to help !

P.S.

I am glad that you have been 'put right' on your research - there is nothing worse than to find someone who you know is very eager but is following the wrong people - sometimes they will not listen and they just keep along the same wrong path which is very frustrating.!!

This time, I believe it has been proved to you and you have a whole lot of new 'reliable' info which you can start to follow.

Do come back and ask for help if you 'go astray' or get stuck anywhere !!

Best wishes,

Lodge Jane -F- 34- Darton, Yorkshire,

Jane gives her birthplace as Darton, so you're looking for a birth cert ( if there is one) in that area... ...which is covered by Ecclesfield.

Helix

You must bear in mind that until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births..........so your relation's birth may not have been registered, as I stated in the first post on this page

Please answer my earlier question about George's occupation.

Helix,

If you go to the top of your thread - the first message.

I believe it has a pinkish button which says mark as unanswered ? - Click on that and it should remove your tick.

DO NOT click on the delete button or the whole thread will be removed.

The tick is one of those widely misunderstood and totally useless tools which GR thinks is a good idea. It is means to be ticked only when the whole thread and all your questions on it have been answered.
