Have you tried looking up the marriages ect yourself?

Freebmd is easy enough to use, which you have been told about on your other threads or familysearch for info before 1837

So...... you don't think that it was Harriet Morton?

As I said in that post, the only way to be sure is to buy Bromley's birth certificate.. If Harriett had been married previously it should show on the birth certificate.

Hello Rootgatherer, I missed that actually!!!! I do use Free BMD the issue is, despite my ancestors having the decency to ensure that their children had meaningful middle names (all for my personal benefit of course), Free BMD rarely ever publishes the middle names so early on. So, when a change of geography occurs, it can be a bit tricky if it isn't a local change!

Thanks so much for all the information so far, going back to early than 1800 is presumably very tricky but who was John Bailey of 1803's father and brothers and sisters? I have looked on familysearch.org and I think his name was also John who married Ann Overton, not sure how to identify any brothers, sisters or to clarify that!

I think you will find that freebmd does publish the middle names early on...it is only after 1911 that an initial is used

It's hit and miss :-) That's confirmed by the existence of middle names on the census that are not detailed in the birth records held on Free BMD.

That is probably because they did not register the child with a middle name...then at a later date either the parents or child added one...maybe after the baptism?

My grandmother added two middle names when she married believing they were her names...which of course they were not, it was what she was led to believe to be her names and it was only after she managed to get a copy of her birth cert when she was in her 60s she found out what her name was
