Christopher - you said he married her in 1908 so the 1910 census would surely be the first one he would be with her?
If 1908 is the correct marriage year then she would have been around 42 so they quite possibly didn't have children together.

Profuse apologies - I meant to say - he marries her aged 48 in san Francisco then goes back to the family home with his brothers an sisters - then is down south.
Just strange

Christopher, I think you may be reading the census dates out of sequence!
He marries her in 1908 and is with her on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 ......
Where does San Francisco come into it (do you have a definite record for their marriage)? It's just that there was also a William Bond of roughly the same age in San Francisco but I think he wasn't yours, that one was a stevedore.

The distances involved aren't very much really, around 30 miles Vallejo to San Francisco.
I think then, as now, Americans were used to travelling greater distances.

There's an undocumented tree on Ancestry that has Florence as the daughter of Silas Mauzy and Lydia Ross.
This is a possible:
1870 United States Federal Census Name: Silas H Mauzy Age in 1870: 39 Birth Year: abt 1831 Birthplace: Indiana Home in 1870: Rushville, Rush, Indiana Race: White Gender: Male Post Office: Rushville Value of real estate: $4,000, Personal Estate $19,500
Household Members: Name Age Silas H Mauzy 39 < Hardware Merchant Eliza Y Mauzy 26 Elmer Mauzy 5 Florence Mauzy 4 Lema Mauzy 2 Mary Mauzy 1/12 Jane Loolen 23
They certainly weren't poor!!

Re the poor bit - interestingly - the reason i am chasing the risk family is that i suspect that didi my great great grandmother out of her inheritance in donegal in 1855
long complicated (yet to be fully uncovered ) story.
dont worry - just doing it out of interest not some mad revenge trip

You can search the US censuses, etc., using the appropriate collection here: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES
For 1870, 1900, 1940 you can click on link to left of transcription to get image. CA 1940 is not completely transcribed (99% done), nor indexed. It takes at least a week after the transcription's finished for them to build the searchable index and link up the appropriate image, so it'll be a couple of weeks yet for that. (One could browse thru the images by hand now, but that's a real pain.)
The blind, deaf stuff is just headers with answers left untranscribed, so who knows from that if they're disabled from that.
For the missing imagers (excl 1890 - totally burned for CA), magnify 4 clicks, then save image: http://archive.org/stream/californiacensus00reel181#page/n538/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/californiacensus00reel222#page/n574/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/14thcensusofpopu124unit#page/n453/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/14thcensusofpopu151unit#page/n594/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/13thcensus1910po0109unit#page/n1371/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/13thcensus1910po0109unit#page/n1371/mode/1up http://archive.org/stream/10thcensus0084unit#page/n65/mode/1up
Note - In 1930 (i.e., after partition) the enumerator was to distinguish which Ireland was their p.o.b. Both James and William say N Ireland, which does rather exclude Donegal as their pob.

Many thanks:
Just some clarification for Marie - what i am saying is that he lived on the farm/ranch with his brothers and sisters, marries at 48 - then goes back with his wife to the farm/rnch - then with his wife heads on down to orange county.
Re the ref to Northern Ireland - they were Presb and probably did not want to be associated with Eire - indeed they were probably born 5-10km from the border.

Christopher, the tree on Ancestry means that someone was researching Florence Mauzy, they have made no connection to the Risks.
Regarding the "deaf, dumb and blind" that is a column that would have an entry if it were applicable. In the case of your families it is not. (Look at the actual census as per mgnv's links).
It was the Mauzy family that I was referring to as not being poor.
Nothing at all unusual about taking wife back to the ranch if he was working there again - a family business. For some reason, many Americans migrate south to retire.
