I've had hold of the birth cert for Minnie (b. 15th May 1884) a few weeks now and still no joy finding the family on the census's prior to Minnie's marriage. Info from the cert tells me that she was born at 1a Bullow Road (which apparently no longer exists), her father Edward Jeffery was a bricklayer and her mother was born Mary Coleman.

Where I have been able to find an Edward and Mary jeffery (on the census's), I can not find Minnie! I have found a wedding cert for them though, dated 1866 and would assume from their ages that Minnie would probably have older siblings. I will order that at the end of the month (payday!) and see what that reveals.

I can't find any Coleman's born in Fulham around the estimated DOB for Mary (I'm guessing 1840ish and searching several years either side). I'm guessing a name like Mary Coleman is going to perhaps be Irish.....will have to wait and see what the wedding cert says.

Posting this here in the off chance it will ring bells with someone or someone may search at somepoint. :-)

Charles and Emily are 2 of the 3 youngest children and their ages are about right (out by 1 compared to other census)

Haven't found her yet in 1891 though - she wasn't with Edward in the census someone has already found.

What do you think of this? Image looks like Jephiss and she's a charwoman which is what Mary Jeffrey is in 1901. She's lodging and saying single - so is it a different person or has she walked out on Edward?

Thanks for that info....would I be right in assuming that you've not got that info from Genes (Jephiss/Jephise) as I get nothing when I search for either name (leaving all other entries blank)?

I've got raging earache at the mo so can't concentrate....will leave it a day or 2 then start getting together all the info. I do seem to remember my mother telling me years ago her grandfather walked out on his wife and kids....I wonder if it was actually her greatgrandfather....

Will be seeing her monday so will see what she remembers.

No I got the info from Ancestry. As Reggie said yesterday there are much better sites than Genes for researching on. The London baptisms are only on Ancestry (or a visit to the LMA!)

I've put info onto the other thread too to try to keep them together.

The story about your grandfather might still be true as this time it seems to be the other way round. Wonder if she got fed up of being pregnant lol! I think we've found 11 children for her!!!!!!

Just having a go at tracking Albert and Minnie in the electoral registers to see if I can find them going their separate ways as your mum suggested.

They are together in 1923 at 28 Ewald Road.
Same in 1929

In 1931 Minnie is at 28 Ewald Road, but Albert isn't. So looks like they may have split up around 1930 ish.

1938 still at Ewald Rd, Minnie and Evelyn.

16 Grimston Road in 1945 so perhaps Ewald Rd was bombed.

Minnie, Evelyn and Robert are at 16 Grimston Road in 1954 and 1961 which is the last entry for Minnie (stops at 65 anyway)

Albert in 1936 is at 121 Moore Park Road; also in the house is a Mrs Sarah Line and a Mrs Marianne Rogers.

(I will add more as I find them)

Just a quick one.....on my way to work (still with earache!)....that sounds about right, Evelyn is Minnie's daughter who lived with her mum til she died. Robert (aka Bobby) would be my motehrs cousin but not sure what he would have been doing living there at that time. HE would have been in his 20's. Will ask my mother when I see her monday.

What site are you looking at the register on? I'm assuming it would be a paid site....wouldn't mind a look myself.
