I was told that 3 Spence brothers came over to Donegal, maybe David was one of them! I know very little about him, other than the griffiths valuation and his death cert. I have Alexander's marriage cert 1849. |

Thomas was the brother who was born in Scotland. I wil have a look at the census now. I know there was about a year between them. Thomas was probably baptised in Donegal where the other were. They were Church of Ireland. Thomas was 76 in 1901 Alexander was 75. Thomas was in Carnowen and Alexander was in Beltany both in Donegal |

I don't know the names of Davids 2 scotish brothers. I'm only thinking it was David and his 2 brothers who came over because Thomas was born in Scotland. It was also said it was thought they came fro Anstruther!! |

Their not in the IGI as bapts in Anstruther.I think your best bet is looking for a poor relief record in donegal. |

I should point out that there are a lot of Ayrshire people with Irish ancesters in the same boat as yourself. My Grandfather came over from County Down ,and he was Church of Ireland .His parish church has no records before civil registration, and they never did burials LOL |

I use the "Hughwallis" site a lot ,instead of Familysearch.I notice Donegal as a County is not there .Was it once under another county name. |

The 1901 Census for Thomas has his age as 76.Usually they are younger than stated at that age.Does it give his age on his marriage cert. |

He had full age and that means anything over 21. It would be of great help to have an age on the certs then! |

Best bet .You say Alexander was a year younger ,and born in Donegal,so there is no Scottish census . |
