Hi Persie, I got his parents names from his death certificate.

Diane, Sleat is on Isle of Skye.. that first census that Gins put up has "a Malcolm" born 1847... as does another one?

Why were his parents called John and Margaret McDonald? as per your opening post..

Is that on his marriage cert to Elizabeth?

Hi Gins thank you for all the census info. According to Malcolms death certificate his father John was a shepherd and all the info I have points to Malcolm being born Isle of Skye. Dont know when sister Margaret was born.

Re the Stewart/McInnes marriages I have no idea when she was married but in Malcolms will dated 1926 he has her living at Maryhill Road, Glasgow

From a different angle. It may be worth trying to locate his sister Margaret's marriage as that would give her mother's name including her maiden surname.

I could NOT though find anything 'matching' on Scotland census etc which I think we really need to confirm/deny a few details.

Diane lives in NZ and have given her links to the NZ Cylopaedias and told her she can also purchase the discs and from where. She has an excellent archive place near her as well... it's just a case of knowing where to find things and get started.

Persie is researching the NZ side of things as thats where she lives, she has far more knowledge than me!

I also think Persie was struggling with the censuses as the family are quite displaced after the 1851

so I am taking her through the NZ end of it.. Incidentally I can only find the same ships list that you have found.... so that she can at least do that side of it for nowt on line or on microfiche at the library.

There are three ways of searching the military here. One of them often has photos and I see a photo of a Malcolm son of Malcolm.
