It would be my 'guess' only in the absence of a marriage for Albert George Davies to Alice that, Albert G Stone is the father of Douglas Leslie and mothers name is her own ie Davies... and that the child was then adopted into his father's family ???

I have Douglas Leslie's birth parents, from the birth certificate, as:-
Albert George Davies and Alice Ann(e) Davies, formerly Edwards. Albert's occupation on the birth certificate of Douglas Leslie as Printer Master.
Hilda Davies was a potential sibling I was looking at, but I dont think she was part of the same family.

Not yet.
As Albert was a foreign correspondent in 1901 and a German Subject then I suppose it is possible that the marriage to Alice took place outside the UK.
When Gillian returns to the thread perhaps she will confirm what was indicated as his father's occupation on Douglas Leslie's birth certificate.

"So... could my great-grandfather Leslie (Douglas Leslie) be a twin with Hilda"
No. Douglas would be 4/5 months older than the Hilda mentioned plus in most cases twins share the same birth index reference.

After a few years, Ive come back to my brick wall again to try and see if I can solve things this time.... following the sudden death of my grandfather (the son of the person Im querying).
My great-grandfather - Douglas Leslie Davies - born 14th June 1900 in Dover, Kent (Kingsdowne, Ringwould). Son of Albert George Davies and Alice Ann Davies (formerly Edwards).
Now the plot thickens...
On the 1901 census, Albert (25) and Alice (27) are listed as living in Lewisham with 2 daughters - Mary (age 1) and Hilda (4 months) but no son.
On the same 1901 census, Leslie (Douglas Leslie Davies) is listed as living with George (46) and Mary A (48) Stone as their nephew, alongside their own sons, Albert G, Arthur S and Joshua L (14)
On the 1911 census, Leslie (Douglas Leslie Davies of Dover, Kent) is shown living as the adopted son of Joshua L and Ada Stone at 55 Strode Road, Fulham Cross.
Leslie (Douglas Leslie, adopting the name of Stone) went on to marry Hannah Elizabeth Stevens and had two sons, Derek Charles and Albert Terence (my grandfather).
So... could my great-grandfather Leslie (Douglas Leslie) be a twin with Hilda and his parents could not afford to keep both children?
Also, I cannot work out the connection between George and Mary Stone and Albert and Alice Davies? Is there one, how to find out?
Can anyone help/advise me, am I missing something?
Would be eternally grateful, thank you.
