Only recently returned to this family, and found a burial for Henry Bartlett 84 of Richmond Square on 28 January 1851 at Hanover Chapel General Burial Ground (Independent), Brighton. Still can't locate a baptism for his daughter Mary though. Perhaps she had a Non-Conformist baptism and it's not online yet. |

Could be a useful site - thanks for that. But as you say, we need a key to the codes! |

Rather belatedly thought you might like to know that I sent for Sarah Ann Penfold's birth certificate, and very interestingly no father is listed, and mother is Eleanor Blunden of 17 Queen Street, Brighton. So your deductions were all spot on! I also got Eleanor's marriage certificate to James Blunden, and this doesn't give a name for her father. She and James were both living at The Bear, Preston (Brighton) at the time of their marriage. Witnesses were George and Sarah Jones, so not even family members as far as I can see. I think Eleanor must have been an interesting young lady!!! |

Thanks both - I'll note the information but will remember that it's not proven - yet! - that this is the right Henry. Seems quite likely though. |

Yes Sylvia, that's the one I found on 12 Mar 2012 00:18. It doesn't prove Henry is her father. He could've been an uncle or cousin. Linda needs to find some more proof. |

I put in a request to the Sussex FHG marriage list and they came up with a marriage between Mary Bartlett and John Wood in Hove 19 Dec 1825. John Wood was buried at St Thomas's, Lewes 9 Jan 1833 aged 29. It all fits nicely - the youngest of their 3 children, Alfred, was born c1831 in Lewes. And it means that my assumtpion that Henry Bartlett was Mary's father is correct. Yay! :-) |
