PLEASE GO TO LAST POST AND IGNORE THE ANSWERED TICK!!!!!!
I have a family and several of them disappear in 1901! The only ones I can find are the elder children who have married and set up home on their own. So I am assuming the missing ones - all unmarried as far as I can tell plus their widowed father were together somewhere...but where is the question!
They are
James 1839 born Barnstaple Anne/Annie Maria born Cardiff 1872 Charles born Cardiff 1875 Katherine born Newport 1881 Ernest born Newport 1885
I have found them all (separately) in 1911 except James who died in 1910.
So where were they in 1901?
Also, elder brother William Henry Gale.
In 1891 he is shown as married and living with wife Myra and stepson Fred Coleman.
In 1901 I can find Myra and Fred but not William.
And I find them both together in 1911 - married 21 years....yet the only marriage I can find was in 1900!
Can anyone find him in 1901?

I was trying to tidy up my tree today.
Had found William and Myra in 1911
Name: William Gale Age in 1911: 48 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863 Relation to Head: Head Gender: Male Civil Parish: Newport County/Island: Monmouthshire Country: Wales Street Address: 6 Dean St Newport Mon Marital status: Married Years Married: 21 Estimated Marriage Year: 1890 Occupation: Marine Stoker Registration District: Newport Registration District Number: 587 Sub-registration District: Newport ED, institution, or vessel: 31 Household Schedule Number: 176 Piece: 31990 Household Members: Name Age William Gale 48 Myra Gale 49 Gennie Heggs 11
This is definitely MY William because Gennie Higgs is actually Sarah Jane Higgs the daughter of William's sister. But I couldn't find anything more about him (or Myra)
So this morning I found this:
Name: William Henry Gale Age: 55 Birth Date: abt 1862 Death Date: 5 Feb 1917 Cemetery: Mercantile Marine Mem Part III Burial Country: England Father: James Gale Region or Memorial: Memorial Register
The entry reads: Gale, William Henry, Donkeyman, SS Azul died 05 February 1917 drowned as a result of attack by enemy submarine. Son of the late Mr and Mrs James Gale - this fits - husband of Elizabeth Ann Gale (nee Francis) Bishopsgate Parade Cardiff Road Newport. Born at Newport Mon.
MY William was born Cardiff although the family moved to Newport sometime between 1871 and 1881. I can find the marriage to Elizabeth Ann Francis in Q2 1881 but I can't find them as a couple at any point. I cannot find a William Henry Gale born in Newport that would have been old enough to marry in 1881.
In 1891 he is living with Myra and her son. She is listed as Gale but their marriage was not until 1900.
I have not found a death for Elizabeth Ann Gale.
So can anyone help me on this? It seems likely that this my William, right age, right father, right occupation......
Jude

MC....James and Rebecca were William's parents. They died in 1910 and 1897 respectively.
In 1881, William Henry is Single.
In 1891 he is living with Myra and states married though I cannot find a marriage until 1900. In 1901 he is at sea and in 1911 he is with Myra in Dean Street Newport.
So I found this death at sea as a result of UBoat action. The citation says son of late Mr and Mrs James Gale which fits with it being my William Henry.
But then it says husband of (suggests she is still alive) Elizabeth Ann Gale (nee Francis) - which is obviously that 1881 marriage. But he has been with Myra since 1891 (at least) and married to her since 1900. So was he a bigamist?

Elizabeth was still very much alive in 1901...so if he did marry Myra in 1900, it looks like he was a bigamist!
