... and there's more ...

The Dorset County Chronicle of 28 July 1864 reported that George Peaty got 21 days hard labour for leaving wife and family chargeable at Cerne.

I think I'll stop looking ........

I reckon we've got the picture that he was a bounder.

Hi Thanks for that but was only interested if you had found her. Mine is strange I have a Kate Furse marrying a William Perry 1885 Bideford Devon (got them on all other censuses ) I cannot find Kate Furse anywhere so went to the birth place of my Kate which was Cerne Abbas Dorset and found a Kate Peaty. Who was working in a Inn near Dorchester in 1881 where William Perry was (he was in the Dorset Regiment) but if this is correct why Furse?????? I think I am going mad there is not connection

Sheila, how do you know it was Kate Furse that William married, and not Emma Vanstone?

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Mar 1885
BOND Samuel Bideford 5b 779
Furse Kate Bideford 5b 779
Perry William Bideford 5b 779
Vanstone Emma Bideford 5b 779

If it definitely was a Kate that he married, then could this be her in 1881?

and it all fits with the 1911:

You have not hi jacked MC and thanks so much for help sweetie

I have been going backwards trying to see some logic to the FURSE surname

There were a lot of marriages and remarriages ,,, in the Jacobs Peaty line and base borns ........

I added Sheila·s PM to the thread as I could not see how Kate Furse was somehow thought to be Kate Rebecca Peaty

It did/does not help that Kate Peaty is quite elusive ---

Sheila

Sheila Report 31 Jul 2012 22:16

On the 1911 census it showed Kate ? and William Perry he was born in Oxfordshire but in 1881 joined the army in dorchester so he was in the area. Her birth place was Cerne Abbas Dorset. First child Dora/Doris Bessie Perry baptised in 1885 Bincombe Dorset abode Kingston Upon Thames but born Beaminster Devon? So it gets very complicated. Known on census records as Kate but death says Kate R. They also say been married 26 years on 1911 census but we all know this information can be wrong. My grandfather was living with another woman not his wife but said it was his wife and gave his name so we know there is incorrect information given!!!!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 31 Jul 2012 22:52

Sheila - is it your grandfather or your friends?

So is that the wrong 1911 census for "your" William Perry? Because I'm sure it's the right one for the William Perry that married Kate Furse.

Why not start a new thread of your own so we can look at it properly rather than confusing Rene's thread?

Renes

Renes Report 31 Jul 2012 22:55

Sheila

This is from Bincombe Parish Records

7-3-1886; Dora Bessie; daughter of; Enoch William & Kate; PERRY; Kingston On Thames; Painter;

So was William actually Enoch William

Renes Report 31 Jul 2012 23:07

MC

Sheila did not add Kate to my thread ............ I did

Kate was the sister of Esther who married into my Turners

This thread was originally started to establish their parents

Sheila pm me and asked about Kate ...... I had recorded her birth etc but had not researched her.............. had a quick look and could not find her after ¿¿ date -- so added to thread

Renes (^_^)

Looks like Dora Bessie was actually born Dorset?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name: Dora Bessie Perry
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1886
Registration district: Weymouth
Inferred County: Dorset
Volume: 5a
Page: 316

Sometimes we just can't avoid getting certificates to get to the bottom of these mysteries! Her birth certificate should end speculation about mother's maiden name.
