trying to find out anything about my gran, eliza williams. That was her maiden name She was born in 1882.Dont know where, but she married John Fisher, who was killed in WW1 in 1917.She was an asylum nurse in Lancaster and she had a daughter Kathleen who was born in 1916. I think she had a sister called Sally, who lived in Preston. She used to take me to a grave in Halton road Cemetary with the name Ellen Stackhouse on it. I have found out, that Ellen`smaiden name was Williams and i wondered if she was a sister? I hope someone out there can help me? You have been a great help,on my other side of my family. Thanks |

If your Gran was born in 1882, then she would have been 33yrs old when she married John Fisher. |

Hi. yes that was my grandad`s information.Ellen Stackhouse was married before to a William Thompson in 1895. She then remarried in 1912 to John Crook Stackhouse.I know my gran married John Thomas Fisher in 1916,just before he went to war.It was definately Ellen Stackhouses grave in Skerton Cemetary that she used to visit and had an arrangement with the gardener there,to make sure it was kept tidy.Funny how little things stick in your mind.We used to visit a man who lived on Main Street Skerton Lancaster, who i always understood to be a relative of hers. Sorry that i cant provide you with any more info, but thanks for your help up to now. I dont think she was ever married before. |

thanks Lancashire ann. My mum Kathleen was born 29th.November 1916,so that ties in ok.My gran must have been born in Preston area,as we used to visit my Aunt Sally in Preston. She had a daughter,Winifred ,who was known to me as Wadeson,She had a daughter Sylvia who was born in a home for unmarried mothers in Lancaster. Her husband`s name was Harold.I always thought that Sally was my gran`s sister. Thanks for all your help. |

given the names these look like Sally's family but I have not yet found a birth that looks right for Eliza Ann (or Elizabeth Annie) |

I always thought that Winifred`s husband was called Harold, but seemingly he was called Arthur. I have got the relations of my grandad John Thomas Fisher, but know nothing of my gran`s parents. I know they were married in 1916,but before that nothing except that she worked at the County Mental Hospital,as it was known then,She didnt get married till late and she was a widow for over 40 yrs. You have been very helpful. Thanks |
