Hi Gavin, just logging off when I saw your note.
The registration district boundaries and names are not always co-incident with the nearest large town (for instance Ecclesall Bierlow). Guisborough registration district covers a larger area than the town itself. Genuki (see http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/guisborough.html) gives the sub-districts covered. The census entries will also specify the district and sub-districts, which is helpful when working from census to certificates. Both possible mothers' 1871 entries are located in the Guisborough registration district.

Actually, following mgnv's note regarding the local bmd (Tees Valley), I think I saw that both women married in 1884 - if you check for the two husbands, then it might be the case that the other one is resident in 1891 or later with an aged parent? Apologies, no time for me to look this evening.

So far, I have certificates to prove the following;
My Maternal Grandfather was 'Stanley James Shepherd'
b1917 in Loftus, Guisborough (19th Nov 1917), I only have the small cert which doesnt name the parents. However, I have his marriage certificate;
m1944 in Port Clarance, Billingham, County Durham (19th February 1944)
26 years old, bachelor. Farm Labourer.
Father named as 'James Edwin Shepherd', Electrician for the Electric Company.
Wife to be - Rose McKie, 21 years old, Spinster, Munitions Worker / Domestic Servant.
Her father is listed as William McKie, Docker.
Stanley's death certificate shows as follows;
d2002 in University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton On-Tees (03rd March 2002)
Stroke & Alzheimers Disease
He died a widow (Rose had died in Feb 1979 - I have that cert too)

Married on 12th May 1913 at the Primitive Methodist Church in Saltburn-By-Sea.
James Edwin's father is shown as James Shepherd (deceased) - Butcher
Edith Annie's father is shown as William Smith - Labourer.
Witnesses are Joseph Moss & Florence Bates.

His name is Alan Shepherd who is mentioned at the beginning and all the info I have on home matches yours. I'm hoping you get this and reply. Thank you in advance

Try clicking on his name, you can then send a personal message through the GR system. If he still has the same email address he registered with GR they can let him know there is a message waiting for him.
Whether he gets it or not or replies is another matter.
