If anybody has access to Canadian Passenger Lists..i would be very grateful if you could look up the following...........William Gilchrist born 1861 left England for Montreal in the few years after 1900..probably took his son Roland with him (born 1889).William married Mary Jane Blashill in 1899 (his second wife)..and I would like to know if she travelled with him..... |

I think on the passenger document it has a W on the married or single section of the form which i would think means widow. |

I disagree with Robin, I think on the passenger list it shows M for married. Son's name is spelled Rowland. He's aged 15. They're heading to Toronto. |

i said i think. its not carved in stone i was finding it hard to see even on 200% it could well be an m for married but could also be a w for widow its a shame we can not put the doc on here. |

I also think it's an "m" if you compare it with the "m" in Durham further down the page. |

This looks to be William's death and the informant is his wife Mary Jane: |

i just looked at the m on william written on the document and it looks nearly the same as the m in single/married section so i should think as Margee states his still married. |

Robin and Margee..brilliant support!! thank you very much indeed.....I didn't think that Mary Jane went with him....because it looks like she re-married by 1911..to a guy called Slingsby.......Her parents were George and Catherine..age and origin is right...so is the father's name....But what could have happened between 1899 and 1904??????? |

I do believe it was the other Mary Jane Blashill who married Mr Slingsby - here she is with him in 1901: |
