The difference in birth dates and registrations is part of the original problem, surely.
A birth in February need not show until June.
If it was registered in March according to the small certificate then it does not show, so why not?
How can the big certificate have a different date?
Error somewhere, but where?
Where has the 'error' with the name Whitley come from?
Someone is making mistakes, who?

Why wouldn't the father have given the mother's first name when he registered Lily's birth? It doesn't make any sort of sense.

To me, the only feasible explanation would be that they were not husband and wife, and he actually had a wife elsewhere

Can you give us the PRECISE wording from each column of the full cert..........and the same for the short cert............

There is only one other birth for Boswell/Whitley on freebmd............in Flintshire

So any 'sibling' would have been born pre-1911, or have had a different surname at birth

A further 'birth date'..........only as known to the informant, of course.

Spoke to Tower Hamlets Register Office as per advice on here and the first person was completely unhelpful so rang back again and got someone that was amazing! How can two so different people work together, unbelievable.

Anyhow after checking the records the lady told me that the large certificate I have is completely wrong and has asked me to send it to them and they will then send me the correct one. As I still had the order sheet from the GRO she said someone's head will definitely be on the chopping block lol, although I have had that cert since 2006 so they could no longer work there especially if all there work was that awful.

The only details she would give me as I have not paid anything is that mother's maiden name was definitely WHITLEY and she was born on 19 February 1919.

The lady kindly offered to look for the other daughter even though I told her I don't know when she was born or what her real name was.

Flick those details above are definitely the right person.

Will update again once I get the new certificate.

The witnesses were Jack BOSWELL and John ASHWORTH (I think that is what the second one says).

Kim, maybe we could go backwards with "Ginny"? Does the memorial card your aunt has have a date of death and was Ginny married or did she die as a Boswell?

Right spoke to my mother in law and asked if she remembered her mother in law's parents and she said they were never spoken of and a bit of a taboo subject so this could explain the lack of a marriage.

However she did not know the sister's real name but knew her married name was BUTCHER and she died 2006 in Maldon, Essex.

Any further help greatly appreciated to sort this out.

Still waiting on the new birth cert for Lily to arrive.

Well that was the only Mary J I could find too but from what I am told there was only the two daughters in the family.

Umm I am not sure what to think now, now why one have mothers maiden name WHITLEY and the other FULLER when Lily was born the third child of these if it is right.

Possible deaths

Perhaps Lilian wasnt the daughter of Rosetta that's why mmn is Whitley. and her dad only names mum as Mrs Boswell.
Maybe he had parted from Rosetta and had Lilian with another lady and tried to cover it up when registering lilian's birth.

Could also explain the late registration.

Shirley the Mrs Boswell part is incorrect, the certificate has been confirmed as being completely wrong by Tower Hamlets Register Office I am awaiting the new one.

I am guessing this all has something to do with why the subject was taboo and that is why Lily and her sister never saw or spoke to the parents.

Looks like these also died young

I thought it was just the birth date that was incorrect on the cert.

When the new cert comes it hopefully will shed some light . :-D
