good evening all, I am on a different quest this time and am begging on you greater abilities to unearth this one. ( apologies if that pun is in poor taste ) George Roles, possibly with a middle name of Hunter, was the father of my ancestor Charles Harry roles, baptised in 1836 at Manchester Cathedral, I have a memory of him being a fishmonger from an earlier search which I can no longer locate, he was married to a Martha but I cannot locate a marriage or find them in the early Census records so am at a los as to where to go now. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Gavin

Hello Patchem, that casued me some concern when I first came across it, I was simply assuming that all children were baptised in their first few years so nearly passed it by, glad I perservered though, that is assuming I am right with George hunter being Charles father...Seems too locical and close to be wrong........

Hello Perchino, I believe Mary is your 1838 one, daughter of Joseph Goodhead and Hannah Richards. Hannah appears in a later census living with Charles and Mary in Manchester which makes me pretty certain of the connection. As before though I could be wrong...... :-)

Hello Catherine, and thank you so much for that Gem, I was unsure of wher they were married and unsure of whether to concentrate my search towards Burton or Manchester for the elusive George. Still no Guarentees that it will still be manchester, but it gives strength to the suggestion. Cheers :-D

Hello again, yes thats one of theirs, their other Son, Charles Henry, had nine children, only Charles Harry survived providing the offspring of which I hail from, sad story but indicative of how bad things were in Salford at the end of the nineteenth century......
