Gilly, sorry not to have responded sooner but there seems to have been a glitch with GR over the last couple of days. I think we are going to have quite a bit more difficulty with Harry than with Mabel - he may have been Harry, Harold or Henry or none of these- but I will keep trying. What I'm trying to do at the moment is eliminate the two from Islington and the two from Croydon. I wonder if anyone has better luck than I in locating James Hewitt (b 1842 in Shalford) in 1881 or earlier census records. I know there were a couple of James Hewitts who were at sea, though they seem to have been in the Royal Navy rather than the Merchant service. |

The Spooner / Wickham connection seems to all tie in but am still confused as to how the name Pearson comes into it? |
