Hi Persie... Thank you. You will think me stupid but I can't find our correspondence :( I thought it was on this website, can you advice me where i can REfind it?
Whenever I think I have got the hang of something I get thrown a curveball and feel dumb again.
I am a kiwi, currently living in Australia so i know exactly what you mean about hit and miss records.

YAY.... just had an insight moment and found our correspondence... I wonder if you would mind seeing if there is any mension of GREENFIELD in the family before I go to the expence of ringing (broke my budget for the month now with those 2 certs)

Harold and Frances's son Johannes at birth later becomes Joseph.. I thought he had not married... saw a marriage for Joseph Leslie Greenfield, did not think he was the one but he is in the war records as going up to the Suez in WW1 .. his father listed as H Greenfield and they were living at Temuka.

He married 1917, died 1942 and his wife May was in Timaru in 1951 when she died.
Albert Percy and his wife Mary both died in the Dunedin area.

Francis Evelyn married George Frederick Robert Ware .. occupation soldier died Christchurch 1971 .

Looks like everyone was down in the South Island .. so I will check them out and see what I can find re descendants... bit harder but should come up with something in my ferreting around.

Hi ... It is Johannes/John GROENEVELD/GREENFIELD and Frances MOFFET who had a son named Johannes (later called Joseph). This Joseph married Augusta Bromville BROOKES. This is not Joseph Leslie who is a great uncle of mine and the child of Henry and Margaret GREENFIELD.
Yes.... my GREENFIELD families settled in Oamaru and Timaru/Temuka although several travelled further south for varying periods of time, and up as far as Christchurch.

I have been unable to trace any descendants of Margaret who may be able to shed some light on her parents James/John MOFFET (and heaps of variations)

I went back and looked at the birth registrations...

Joseph Leslie was called Johannes Leslie on birth register, born 1891 to Henry and Frances.

And Johannes Augustus Greenfield was born to Joseph Greenfield and Augusta Broomieville . 1893 . no surname given re mothers on our birth regos... found Joseph and Augusta Brookes marriage 1877 Her middle name is spelt Broomiville in the marriage register.

I can't find a marriage of death for Johannes Augustus Greenfield.. Augusta died in 1936... I have just had a look at Augusta and Joseph's list of children her middle name as a variety of spellings and Joseph is called Johannes, Johnamas and Johnanas..

I thought they must have had a daughter Eleanor Augusta Greenfield who died in 1969 aged 72... but her name was Eleanor Augusta Gray and had married a Albert Greenfield in 1942... I wonder if he was Albert Percy's son?

I think I need to work out a tree of your lot.. LOL There definitely must be someone around that stems from all these Greenfields... So hard when we can only get births with parents names up to today's date 1911.

I have quite a comprehensive GROENEVELD/GREENFIELD tree, especially the descendants of Henry and Margaret (which is my branch) and his ancestry...it is prior to these ones I have a brickwall.... basically I don't know Margarets maiden name or where she came from although I believe Scotland c1864 aged about 15 and her death cert says she was married in Invercargill at age 16. I THINK she married a James or John MOFFET(T)/MOFFAT(T) although to date no proof after making several lines of enquiry. I have found out NOTHING about James/John except a name on certificates (which vary as well). I cannot check for Margarets marriage as I don't know her family name and the ones that have been entered on certificates vary and have no result, also there is nothing relevant for John/James!!!! I think my only avenue open is to contact the children of Margarets daughter Alice who married Henry Couper.... I have a phone number for one here in Australia but when I ring it sounds like a fax machine and I have written 3 letters and none have been answered.

OAMARU DISTRICT SCHOOL.

The public examination of the Oamaru District School took place on Sept. 10th, in the presence of His Worship the Mayor, Messrs Shrimski, Booth, Ashcroft and Black, members of the School Committee, and a number of the parents of the children, and visitors. The children were examined by the Master, Mr Fleming in reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, grammar, dictation, drawing, Latin, and music. The prizes, some of which were very elegantly bound books, were distributed by His Worship tho Mayor tho following gentlemen being donors of books for this purpose, viz., the Hon. M. Holmes, Messrs M'Aulay, Hunter, Finch, Livingston, and Harper. It should also be mentioned that Mr Samuel Shrimski very kindly presented a number of the scholars with books we have not been furnished with the names of the recipients. Aftor tho examination, the children were regaled with fruit, sweetmeats, etc., tho gift of Messrs Newey and Price, Headland, and Booth Brothers. His Worship the Mayor addressed the children, complimenting them upon the result of tho examination, aftor which three hearty cheers were given severally for His Worship the Mayor, the donors of prizes, and fruit, etc., and the visitors. Tho national anthem was then very nicely sung, and the school was dismissed.

I love some of the wording... when you get the computer generated text from the original a lot of weird errors pop up so hope I corrected them all.

Thank you Persie I did not have that article re school awards :) ... I believe Augusta was the first while child born at Tokomairiro in 1853. Kate would have been Caterina born 1860 in Warnambol, Vic, Aus... married Samuel Wark DICKSON 20 sept 1882 in Hull St, Oamaru, NZ. She had 6 children and died 21 oct 1937 in Dunedin, NZ.

Found his death entry he was 18 months old... must've had a duh look before.

December 1884.
On the 8th instant, at the residence of his parents, Johannas Augustus, infant son of Joseph and Augusta Greenfield. The funeral will leave the parents' residence, Eden street, at 4 p.m. to-day Frlends will please accept this intimation

Good morning Persie :) I would love a copy of the Ad the advert please... I knew he was the proprieter but did not know he was advertising it... yes the Greenfields had more than their fair share of infant/childhood mortality I think only 3 of John and Mary Janes 7 living to produce live offspring.
Just a note on the pub... I actually lived 50kms inland from Oamaru for 7 years and before I knew the linked family history I would drive past it at least once a week and at the time thought what a grand building it was and a shame it was now being left to deteriorate.

I will pm you later cause there is something else... you should maybe know about.
