I think I would go with the death in 1909
Better match on age compared to 1901 census and same registration district

When Peter Featherstone Witty married in 1869 his address is given as 3, Park Place, Monkgate, York. This was the home of William Featherstone, who was chief clerk at the Post Office in York. Another researcher has stated that descendants of Peter would later say that this William was a "kinsman" of Peter's mother Hannah. Now there isn't any actual proof and it is possible that this was an assumption the family made based on the surname, but it does seem very likely that he was a relative - and if so it might be possible to determine just how he was related to Hannah. William's ancestry goes as follows: He was born c1831 at York. His father was John Featherstone who was born c1805 at Durham. John's father was also John, born c1769 at Wolsingham, and that John's parents were John and Jane. The following christenings appear in the IGI for children of John and Jane at Wolsingham... Sarah 1759 Margaret 1761 Thomas 1764 John 1769 - ancestor of William of York. Susanna 1771 Sarah 1776 Hannah 1779 (Given the range of 20 years I guess it is possible that there were 2 different John and Janes but probably not)
Other researchers have speculated that 'my' Thomas Featherstone (c. 1784-1847) was the son of 1764 Thomas and that our Thomas was the one christened 1788 at Danby in Cleveland, but I'm not convinced. There is no actual proof for this. Based on my Thomas's age at death, he would have been born in 1784. But I suppose it is possible that the 1788 Thomas was christened late and/or our Thomas's age at death was wrong. I would prefer, however, to have some proof that ties 1764 Thomas of Wolsingham to Danby (given that they are quite far apart - for those days).
Any comments? Suggestions?

William Featherstone is a popular name in Yorkshire in 1861
Have you looked at 1881 ,free on many sites, to see if you can work out which one he might be

Thank you - I was misinformed about this entry. Apparently a William Featherstone should also be present in the house.
Now, with this, Peter Featherstone Witty was the son of Robert Witty (1825-1858) and Hannah Featherstone (1831-1861).
Hannah, was a sister of the above Elizabeth CAREY, and they were daughters of Thomas Featherstone (c. 1785-1847), a labouer of Stainton, Yorkshire and Elizabeth Marley (c. 1780-1860).
I know nothing of their parents.
Now, when Peter Featherstone Witty married to his FIRST wife in 1869 in York, Yorkshire he did so from the house of William FEATHERSTONE, who later becamed York's postmaster. I would like to find a connection between William FEATHERSTONE and my family, especially as my line currently begins with Thomas Featherstone's marriage to Elizabeth Marley in 1815 in Stainton (he died before 1851 so we don't have his birthplace), although he was born c. 1785.
Is it wrong to assume to assume that William Featherstone is a relation of mine? Can you spot him the census in York? That may help me assertain a connection.
Thanks.

Yes that is them. Thank you. The Gordon's in 1911 are them!
Can I ask for the 1861 census for 65 Gillygate York, home of Thomas and Elizabeth Carey. This should show Peter Featherstone Witty as a young boy, recently widowed. Elizabeth CAREY, nee Featherstone was a maternal aunt.
