................maybe the death certificates of the parents may give a clue. If they were registered by Louis then at least you would know that he was still alive at that time.
If he did change his name then maybe they were registered by him under his new name???

She was Ellen Hoggard (same source) but I can't find a marriage for them.

I can't find them in the 1881 census at all, although according to the 1911 census they would have married in 1879/1880.

Sally, do you have Paul and Ellen's death certs?

I did some look-ups in the Hull burials registers a couple of weeks ago and was amazed at how much detail was included - age, date & cause of death, address and informant.

If you would like me to, I can see if I can find these 1914 & 1917 burials.

Found William James Burns married to Ellen in 1881 in Scarborough, so the 1861 marraige is most likely not your Ellen, I'm afraid, Sally.

Familysearch has the marriage of a George Moorhouse and Caroline Jane Turner 24 Feb 1857 in Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, she was baptised in Long Sutton in 1835, which fits with the 1861 census above.

Sounds like George and Caroline may have separated and he was not married to Ellen. I've not been able to find a death for Caroline Jane Moorhouse but there is a potential bigamous marriage in Sunderland in 1864. Confusion reigns!

Now, here's a funny thing...familysearch has the marriage of Caroline Jane Moorehouse (widow) and George Anderson in Hull 23 Jan 1879. She was the daughter of Philip Turner (corresponds with the 1835 baptism); he was the son of James Anderson.

But Caroline Jane Moorhouse married George Anderson in Sunderland in 1864...so this looks very much like a bigamous marriage.
