I am trying to trace my great grandfather but as he was born in Ireland, I am finding this hard. I know he was called John Doyle, born around 1896. He was 24 on his marriage cert in 1920. |

Have you got the Birth Certificate? not sure if you are able to do that for Ireland as I don't know how it works through births you could also try to find a birth on the LDS site I think I saw on a thread that there are irish births on there too. |

He married Lucy Doyle in the UK May 1920. As he married a non catholic, his family disowned him, hence the reason no one knows anything about them. |

Amy - on your first post timed at 20:19 click the edit button. That will give you access to change your heading - alter it to include something like help with Irish birth. |

The occupation on the certificate says 'boot and shoe seller'. most of the occupations on the census are farmer etc. Struggling to find anything similar to the shoe/boot seller. |

Did he mention any brothers or sisters and mother...or any other relatives? |

No one else was ever discussed due to him being disowned. My grandmother said she never asked as it was a 'forbidden' subject when she was growing up. Both of the witnesses on the certificate were Lucy's family members so that doen't help either. |

Looking back on this thread to what you said earlier about the census records for ireland, can you remember the places of birth for the 3 you narrowed down? |
