As a thank you to all those who helped define the actual John Arthur Campbell(Gamble) here is the answer to the mystery.
My DNA test(Ancestry.com DNA ) is conclusive that I am a member of the Gamble family with a match with a great grandson of one of my fathers brothers on a direct male line. This confirms the paper evidence that ,John Arthur Campbell was my father as entered in my admission form to a National Children's home in 1936.

I have found William Gamble and Anna Mary Gambles daughters (Florence Mary 1883 and Dorothy Victoria) in 1911.
Runcton house Goodwins St Kings Lynn.
On original it says parents away from home,no wonder we couldn't find them.
1912 William Gamble 1843 is at Runcton house there is next door but one to Mountfield Goodwins street where his son Sydney Alderson Gamble lives in 1911 and 1912.

It is Sydney Alderson Gamble's descendant who has the photo in his tree in here.

Just a thought,
do you not think that Derek was married before 1960 ( aged 50 )
unless you have his 1960 marriage certificate & it says single ?
There is a marriage in 1943 & 1956 so it is possible he had children.

I have just been checking names on here connected to this family.

I happen to have access to a tree what has John A Gamble OBE who married Mary Alice Worger.
On his deatails is a photo of about 15 people which looks like his sisters and brothers,it has their names underneath but I can't read them.

It also states William Gamble was in Kellys directory in 1921 living at Runcton House Goodwins Road Kings Lynn.

1925 His wife Anna died at The Retreat Hunstanton Norfolk.

I have found this a fascinating thread and the info on the Birkin family is very interesting.

I am looking at the Gamble farming family in Freebridge Lynn Norfolk.
Family headed by William Gamble b 1884. Can one of you kind researchers give me the 1911 family structure please. The 1881 and 1891 male members appear to have spread widely.
I may wish to do a DNA test and need a male relative within 2 generations of John Arthur. John Arthur Campbell(Gamble) and wife had Mary(Judy) b 1916 and Derek b.1910. Derek changed his name to Campbell in 1943 (London Gazette Jan 29, 1943). He married a Jackson in 1960, no sign of children. So I am going back to the Gamble farming family to see if there might be any male descendants that could be suitable.

As promised I have come back to the thread now that I have the certificates.
The 1935 Electoral roll for 1935 for 7 Welby Gardens, Grantham, confirms that John Arthur Campbell lived at that address. Also resident were Mary Alice Campbell and Derek Gamble. I was born in April 1936 and so conceived about Aug 1935.
There are seven persons named on the Application form for my admission to the National Children's Home & Orphanage in June 1936. All names and addresses, including the above, have been verified. There is a high probability that John Arthur Campbell as stated, is my father.
The search has been interesting as John Arthur changed his name some time after his marriage in 1902 to the time of his daughters birth in 1916.
Mary Campbell b. May 31 1916 became Judy Campbell, the actress. Her birth certificate shows her parents as John Arthur Campbell and Mary Alice Campbell (formerly Worger). The address is 7 Welby Gdn's. There are numerous articles and family trees that show Judy Campbell as born Judy Gamble, that is not the name on her birth certificate.
In the 1911 census, John Arthur Campbell names himself, and is at the Theatre house in Grantham. The enumerator, in red ink, crosses out the 'Campbell' and enters 'Gamble'. His birth is shown as Nth Runcton, Norfolk.
The 1911 census also shows Mary Alice Gamble in Abetillery in Wales with Derek Gamble at 6 months. The Electoral roll for 1935 Welby Gdns shows Derek Gamble as a resident. It appears that he did not take on the Campbell name. If daughter Mary was there, she would have been under 21 and so not registered.
John Arthur Gamble(actor) & Mary Alice Worger(actress) were married on July 2nd 1902 at St. Saviours church, registered at St. George Hanover Squ. Middlesex. William Gamble(farmer & Landowner) was a witness. This is consistent with John Arthur's birth in 1878 in Nth Runcton where in the 1881 census he is age 3 and his father is William Gamble, farmer of 400 acres.
Richard Worger is named as Mary Alice's father.

I am a bit confused as to why you won't bite the bullet and order the birth certificate that you have been directed to? Unless I'm missing something obvious it seems likely that it is her.....

It may prove a quicker process than waiting for potential answers from other's who have a simiarly named person in their tree.

Have written to the Jane Birkin tree members excluding those I have previously contacted under Judy Gamble's tree name referring to this thread and asking for contributions and/or GRO references for Judy's birth and parents confirmation. We may cause a family conference. Lets hope we get some confirmations. ;-)
