spiderlegs...some more for her! From NLA Trove newspaper
The Sydney Morning Herald, Friday 9 October 1931 NEEDHAM.-October 7, 1931, at Coast Auxiliary Hospital, Randwick, Edward Allan (Jim), dearly loved husband of Ellen Needham, aged 49 years. Late tram perway.
He was buried at the Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood.
Ellen was known as Nellie.
Edwards's father Edwin had some connection with the Commonwealth Fish Markets in Redfern. Edwin was known as Ned. His wife Augusta died in 1921 in Redfern, daughter of Matthias and Ellen. (That is the Irish connection, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be Aboriginal blood in the Needham side!)
Edwin's mother Susan (nee GOODE) died in NSW on July 20, 1913 aged 72. Her father is only shown as John. (She could be the link).

Susan's husband John died April 19, 1885 in Redfern, NSW, aged 69. At the time he was living at 66 Pitt St, Redfern. He was buried at Necropolis.
Lots of memoriam notices for Susan in the SMH.
No birth reg for Susan in NSW or Qld. Will check Vic, but may not be registered here (if at all).
Birth to John & Susan in Newtown, Vic before they moved to Qld: 1863/14363 William Needham
Births to John & Susan in rural Qld: 1865/C1361 Edwin Allan Needham, d. 1915 Redfern 1866/C1848 Matilda Susan Needham (m. Geo BURKE 1885), d. ? 1868/C2178 Frederick Alfred Needham (m. Margt F STOKELD 1900), d. 1925 Sydney 1870/C2776 Ernest John Needham (m. Mary BRYANT 1897), d. 1924 Redfern 1872/C2584 Louisa Needham, d. 1876/C2145 1875/C3338 Florence Needham (m. Fredk T ARGENT 1899), d. 1960 Ashfield
and then in Redfern, NSW: 1882/7965 Albert Hy (m. Esther M FAULKNER 1904), d. 1958 Burwood 1884/10435 Beatrice May (m. Chas Edward ARGENT 1900), d. 1941 Newtown
(Fredk & Chas ARGENT were brothers, sons of Stephen & Sarah)
So John was fathering chn quite late in life - and then up and died and left poor Susan with 7 children!

A Susan GOODE arrived in Victoria aged 8 in 1849 aboard 'Tasman'.
Family were John 37 Lucy 39 Mary 16 James 13 William 6 Sarah 3 Allan (infant)
The given name Allan is a strong clue here that this may be the right family. (There goes the Aboriginal connection!)
Allan (not Allen, as per shipping record) was born at sea.
They had another son named Richard b. c1851, d. Dec 1863 Geelong aged 12.
Lucy (nee BUTE) died in 1870 aged 60 (reg 6879), no parents names given. John died in Dec 1889 in Geelong, aged 76; parents shown as 'unknown'.
John, Lucy (says Louisa with Lucy in brackets) and Richard are all buried at Geelong Western Cemetery (Methodist section).
Just need to find John Needham's arrival now...b. c1840

The IGI has a submitted record for John GOODE - born 1812 in Wisbeach, Cambridgeshire, died 22 Dec 1889 Geelong.
Married twice - first to Lucy BUTE in 1831 at Tydd St Giles and 2nd to Eliza ELTON.
There is a marriage for Jno GOODE (b. Cambridgeshire) to Eliza Sarah ELTON (b. Middlesex) in 1871 in Vic (reg 1270). Burial for Eliza Sarah Goode at Geelong Western Cemetery (C of E section) in 1903. Her death record shows she was 84 and her maiden name was BUCKLAND (dau of Thos & Eliza Sarah), so she must have been married twice as well.
See his page at http://home.mira.net/~merowley/goode/james.html

And this looks like the family on the 1841 census. The shipping record states Wisbech and shows James as a farmer
