Moira....A lesson in Irish History and the Plantatation of Ulster...No way hen....!!!

Just having a glance over the thread....Look back at the 1841 Census for Mary and David....

John "McBLUNE"...Lab.

Dont know how I missed it...He is possibly related to Mary..nuisance no age given..but he was born Lanark...given he was a lab. he would need to be at least abt.14.
Thomas Muir...likely bro.of David...

Good morning I now have Jean, Mary, David, Agnes and John- children of Mary McBlain and David Muir.

In an earlier post you mentioned that the McBlain family came over at the time of the Plantation of Ulster. What does that refer to. I do not know that much about Irish history.

Moira...It may be worth checking address of where John McBlain (Cambuslang) died against the 1871 Census for John Liddell and Jane Muir.
Do hope these are the right family..!!!

Moira...Just to confirm Marriage was of "Jane" Muir ...31 Dec. 1857...think the Liddell note above had written wrong Christian name ...no marriage of a "Mary" Muir to a John Liddell

Eringobragh1916 Report 5 Jul 2011 18:50

Moira...This is getting complicated...Was the Mary above actually Mary "Jane"...?

These are the children of John Liddell and "Jane/Jean" Muir...

Hello again Erin I tried to find the marriage of Robert Moore and Jane (McBlane) on SP and it did not come up even entering the year1858. As I said I did not have success with the births of John and Janes children.
Did you get your information on Ancestry? I would have thought that this information would have been available on SP is this correct?

Moira....you are correct...there were no passenger lists ...
I have tried checking through the records for NI again with no joy....
A check of their children in later years may show on their documents an actual place of birth...worth a look...

Moira Report 4 Jul 2011 20:47

Another great find. That gives a window from 1826 to 1831 approx. that they arrived in Scotland. They would sail from Belfast to Glasgow I expect. I guess there is no way that I could find out details of their journey as there most likely would not be a record of passenger list. I will go to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow to enquire.
I am so pleased with all that you have been able to find. thanks again Erin and Potty.

Regards Moira

Potty Report 4 Jul 2011 15:33

Thank you Erin!

The ages and POBs of William and Jane in the 1841 give Moira an indication of when John and Jane moved from Ireland to Scotland.
