Hi there, my name is Toni, my grandfather was (rest in peace grampy I miss you so much) Frederick Thomas Hoare, he was born in 1905 in Northampton but later moved to Birmingham then Bristol. He had children (one being my father) with Ms Sword (sadly I do not know her full name) I'd love to get in contact with other family members or if anyone is able to help me further, I feel a bit lost as I know very little about any of my family x Toni x

Toni,

Have you tried FreeBMD and the 1911 census?

Not seeing a marriage for a Hoare to a Sword. Perhaps your grandmother was married before?

Ms Sword's full name will be on your fathers birth certificate.
No marriage found for Hoare/Sword, but one found for Hoare/Chandler in1927. Pam

Thank you ladies, Gillian the details you sent were indeed correct and Rose, you're right, my grandad was married to an agnes Chandler but went off to have an affair with my grandmother who all I know about is her surname, if you could help me that would mean so much to me thank you xx

If she was the mother of the children, you need to get one of the birth certificates -- your father would be the obvious choice. ;-)

It will give her full name -- including both birth surname and married surname, if she was married as well, as long as she reported the name(s) correctly.

I assume Gillian gave you the registration details -- this is where you order the certificate:

You're already in contact with the several other people who have Frederick Hoare 1905 Northampton in their trees?

Someone also has a Frederick Hoare 1906 Bristol in their tree. There was no such birth -- I wonder whether that might be your Frederick, with someone having made an assumption?

Thank you, I know I probably sound so naive, that's because I am when it comes to this :) I have a very colourful family, none of which will reveal anything to me because there are so many secrets. Coudl you tell me where would be a good place to start in finding out my grandfathers details i.e who were his siblings, parents etc? xx

The 1911 census would show any siblings born by then.

I don't like to take the fun out of it -- and anyhow I don't subscribe for the 1911 so I can only do the free searches you can do.

Give it a try for practice, and someone who does subscribe can give the details.

Search for Frederick Hoare in Northampton born 1905 +/- 2 years -- if you're lucky there will only be one. Then search for any Hoare living with Frederick Hoare in Northampton. I'll give it a go too.

Hmm, the only one I get is

HOARE FREDERICK MAURICE 1904 7 Northampton

Yours is this one

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Births Dec 1905
Hoare Frederick Thomas Northampton 3b 47

and that one is this one

Births Mar 1904
Hoare Frederick Maurice Northampton 3b 41

You should probably order that birth certificate at the same time anyway, to be sure of his parents.

I also tried any name starting with FRED and surname starting with HO but still no go.

My grx3 grandmother was a Hoare, I believe, and it was spelled variously Hore Hoar Hoare (as the middle name of my grx2 grandfather). But by 1900, spellings should have settled down.

Mine are from Cornwall so we're not likely cousins. ;-)

How do you know where he was born, if you know so little about him?

Looks like there was a child born to Agnes. Same name as one of his later children.

Will PM details.

Yes I know Rose, it's all very very confusing and quite concerning. He had a daughter called Irene with his wife Agnes Chandler, he then ran off with my nan who I never got to meet as she died at a very young age but I know her surname was Sword, she was known as cathy/kathy that could be catherine/katherine/kathleen....who knows :-/ They had a few children together (one being my father) but they called one Irene...when he already had an Irene with Agnes, strange to me but hey, maybe that's how it was back then?! I really appreciate all of this thank you so ver much, if you find anymore details i'd greatly appreciate them xxx

My grandfathers name was definately Frederick Thomas Hoare as I named my first born after his middle name :-)

Toni

Toni Report 11 Jun 2011 02:32

I'm trying to find him on the 1911 census and there's no sign of him? :-\

Toni

Toni Report 11 Jun 2011 02:41

I know my nan Ms Sword was a whole lot younger than my grandad as well, not sure if that helps, I wish I knew her name I feel so disrespectful referring to my nan as "Ms Sword"!

I'm fairly certain this is a brother:

Births Mar 1908
Hoare Bertram Northampton 3b 63

I can't find him in 1911 either and there's a marriage in Birmingham that fits.
