I did think at first that Susan may be the childless aunt, and the censuses seem to suggest that it is possible.

is the 1911 census with William James and Rose Hannah Long posted by Lindsey earlier ringing bells with you?

I cannot find James Day and Susan Long nee Day together in earlier census' to prove if they were siblings, as this was my original hunch.

to be sure of whether the people are who I/ we think they are you'd be best ordering the marriage certs given above from the GRO, these will have addresses, former names, fathers names on which will help us.


I think I have found James Day on earlier census' with a wife and children, living in New Prospect Place, Yeovil

Is it possible that the Emily Chislett visiting Susan and William Long in 1881 is the same person as Emelina Chislett (sister of Mary Jane Bower /Day/ Chislett) on the 1871 census with Emanuel as their father?

I wonder if Hannah Day married Emmanuel Chislett and then went on to have Mary Jane

I propose the theory that William was brought up by Susan Long nee Day who was the youngest sister of his maternal grandmother, but as said earlier, birth and marriage certs are needed to confirm the parentage of those concerned
