I just worked it out that Alice sister Katherine married John Whitfield. They had a son John Bennion Whitfield so it looks like Alice left her money to her nephew. I wonder if her only child Bessie Mary Lawn Shepherd died before her?. Bessie married William Walton.
I dont have full access to the 1901 census . Can someone look for the Whitfield family. Katherine born 1857 Oswestry
They are living West Felton Shropshire and Katherines husband is an Inn Keeper
They seem to be the only Whitfield family in the area so Im assuming all the children are theirs but I want it confirmed
Thank you

Thank you Vera once again. Strange that Alice didnt leave her money to Bessie or grandchildren isnt it?
|
I agree it does seem strange,.

|
the names given the calendar of wills are the executors, not the beneficiaries.
it would be best to order the wills and see what they actually say
|
Thanks for that Tempest, I thought they were the beneficiaries as well.

You're welcome, I thought that at first until I ordered some of my lots wills etc, they can be quite revealing, or set you up with more surprises and questions.
Sometimes the executors are beneficiaries as well, but not always, or executors might be left a nominal sum "as an acknowledgment for the trouble of executing my will" to quote my 2 x Great Uncle.
From my experiences, I would say Edwin Herbert Clutterbuck was Alice Lawn Shepherd's Solicitor who sought probate.
