No i got the details off the birth cert my uncle peter has and he will not let me see it now and will not talk about it, but it is from the birth cert of william, I then found out about Maria.
I need a copy as took only basic details as over 20years ago since I saw the cert same for my Grand mother Margarett Bishop.

Kucinta Report 11 Jun 2011 18:49

I assumed you already had the birth cert for William John - isn't that where you got Maria McNabb's name from?

susan

susan Report 11 Jun 2011 18:43

John was a colour sargent in the royal surrey regiment, when they had my grand father william John Holden in Surrey, so I need his birth cert,
then the marriage? I guess.. it gets confusing with so many williams and Johns
So my grandfather William John holden
Great grand father John Holden
Great great grand father William Holden
Grand mother Magarett Ann Bishop nee Holden
Great Grand mother Maria Mc Nabb
Nothing else on maria side
Seems right

You know from your previous research that John's father's name is William, and presumably John's profession will be soldier.

If those details tally then it's likely you have the right couple, and you should get to find out the name and occupation of Maria's father

If they don't tally, then at least you've ruled out this line of enquiry.

I never knew Holden was an Irish name!! thats something new I have learned, thank u I will get the cert, how do I check its her or him as I do not know any more on Maria side ???

I can't guarantee they married each other, just that they turn up on the same page.

You'd need to get the actual cert to be certain. John Holden is an Irish name as well as an English one, so don't get excited too early!

The 1841 census simply tells you if the person was born in the same county they were residing in 1841, or if they were born abroad.

So as Alviegal says Blanche was born 'out of county', all we know is she was not born in Middlesex.

Wonder if this is Blanche in 1841. She was not born in county but at least we have a rough birth year to look for.

You might be advised to get the death cert for 13 yr old Maria Mcnab that Alviegal mentioned, to rule her in or out as the daughter of Blanche and John.

You don't want to jump to conclusions too quickly, and you still have no direct proof or even indirect proof that the Maria Mcnab baptised Marylebone 1848 is 'your' Maria Mcnab, since you don't know where your Maria was born or who her father was.

Maria Holden's age at death in 1890 is 38, which gives her a birth year of c1852, so seemingly 4 yrs younger than the daughter of John and Blanche.

Can anyone trace John, Blanche and Maria in census 1861?

It would be interesting to see if they had moved to the area where the13 yr old Maria died, making it more likely that she was their daughter, not 'your' Maria. I've searched for them in the 1861myself but had no luck.

Death: McNab Maria Mile End 1c 366 Sep 1861.

Given that Maria's family were living in Mitcham Rd Barracks in Croydon in 1891 and that her youngest child was born in Croydon, and that her widowed husband apparently married his house keeper from census 1891 in Croydon, also in 1891, you can't be more certain that the Croydon death is the right one unless you actually buy the death certificate:

Census 1891:

Living Mitcham Rd barracks Croydon.

Sure went in for odd names ! so blown away at all this wonderful information.
THANKYOU WITH ALL MY HEART <3

I was told of a romantic tale of a link to Cork, Ireland and Mc Nab being Scottish and or Irish, but that I think is just pure romantic stuff from my late mum as she knew nothing else only Maria was her Grand mother on her fathers side and she never met her. :-D
