Hi Poodles
That's great news.

Just a tip, because you might struggle to find Mary Ann Spizer birth.
If the marriage cert gives her father as Thomas an Agricultural labourer (or similar), I think you will find that her birth was mistranscribed under Sarah Ann Spicer. Her parents and siblings are easily found under Spizer though, it's just Sarah Ann that isn't. They are also mistranscribed under Spicer in the 1871 census.
I won't spoil your fun by posting everything I found, and you need the marriage cert anyway to check that I am on the right track.
However, I will post the 1891 census as it gives what I believe is her true birth place. Which is Woolsthorpe Lincolnshire and not Calverton Notts as on the 1901.
Woolsthorpe, which she and her probable father and siblings give as birth place and Spittlegate, which her probable mother gives all come under Grantham Lincolnshire.

1891
Name: Mary Ann Wright
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: John Wright
Gender: Female
Where born: Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England

Civil parish: Arnold
Ecclesiastical parish: Calverton
Town: Calverton
County/Island: Nottinghamshire
Country: England

Registration district: Basford
Sub-registration district: Arnold
ED, institution, or vessel: 7
Piece: 2677
Folio: 58
Page Number: 21

Household Members: Name Age
John Wright 29
Mary Ann Wright 27
Charlotte Wright 5
Jane Elizabeth Wright 1

Good Luck. Come back if you need any more help.

Oh Christine, I didn't think that you were abrupt at all! There is no need for an apology.

And Yip! Lucy Ann Francis seems to be the lady in question!

Christine2

Christine2 Report 19 Apr 2011 12:26

Sorry rootgatherer, I didn't mean it to sound abrupt. I only asked because poodles was sounding as though they still weren't convinced and feeling very confused, and I wondered why she has always been adamant that her fathers grandmother died as a Wright. I thought perhaps they knew something we didn't i.e. who registered the death.

Personally I agree that everything points to Lucy Ann Francis, and as you say, a real coincidence that they died in the same year.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 19 Apr 2011 10:49

Christine, we think that Lucy Ann Francis is the correct lady. Perhaps I was the cause of the confusion when I found that there were 2 Lucy Ann Wrights born within a year of each other in the correct area. I posted the death of the "other" Lucy Ann as it had her DOB and to illustrate that Colleen had the wrong birth certificate. Like you, I agree that the facts speak for themselves as Lucy Ann Francis was a witness to Charlotte's marriage.

Bit of a co-incidence that they both die in 1971 too!

Dea Report 18 Apr 2011 20:42

Order the 1896 birth cert Colleen - that is the one you need.

You have confirmed that the birth cert you have matches up to the death of Lucy Ann Wright and not Lucy Ann Francis which is the one you need.

Oie vie

Hi poodles
Would you please tell us WHY you think that your husbands grandmothers death was this one, in the name of Wright -

Name: Lucy Ann Wright
Birth Date: 30 Jun 1895
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Ilkeston
Inferred County: Derbyshire
Volume: 3a
Page: 1175

and NOT this one, in the name of Francis?

Name: Lucy Ann Francis
Birth Date: 13 Feb 1896
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Nottingham
Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
Volume: 3c
Page: 780

If you are absolutely certain for some reason that the death in the name of Lucy Ann WRIGHT is your husbands grandmother, then I think you can assume that she isn't the Lucy Ann Wright who married Mr Francis. The birth dates just do not tie up.

What a coincidence though that a Lucy Ann Francis name is on the marriage cert of Charlotte.

p.s. Please read my post above and let me know whether you are also interested in my possible findings on your husbands paternal side.

Dea Report 18 Apr 2011 14:24

Thank you Janey,

I have edited my posts to the correct birth date of 1896 (not 1886).

I went 'astray' when Colleen posted:

Hi having computor problems so hope you don't recieve this message twice i sent for & recieved the birth & certificate of Lucy Ann Wright born 1885 which has the name of Lucy Ann's father as William Wright a coal miner & Mary Ann Wright maiden name Watson But on Lucy Ann's marriage certificate her fathers name is John Wright who was a bricklayer "

She, of course, also meant 1895 (not 1885).

We just need to know from Colleen (Poodles) the exact date of birth on the cert she has received so that we can match it with the correct death, then we can be sure that she needs to order the other birth cert.

And, yes, Colleen, you just need the ref. numbers given for the 1896 cert and you can order it through GRO - You give the quarter, year, ref no. and reg district 'exactly' as given on the info we have given you.

I get it! I wonder whether poodles typed in the date of birth from the death record rather than the date of birth on the birth certificate. ;)

I know I've done similarly clumsy things hereabouts!

Christine2 Report 18 Apr 2011 13:11

You seem to be very confused poodles. WHY do you think that your husbands grandmother died as Lucy Ann Wright? The fact that Lucy Ann Francis was on your mothers marriage cert would certainly point to her marriage to James E Francis, which would also point to her death as the Lucy Ann Francis that matches the birth in Jan-March 1896. Even the fathers name appears to match that one. The only things that seem to be confusing you are that you appear to have sent for the wrong birth cert and are confused about her death.

You also say that you can’t find your husbands paternal side either.

Was his fathers name George Edward Perrin and what age did he give on his marriage certificate to your mother in law Charlotte? Was he about 26? Also, I see that he gave his father’s name on the marriage certificate as Henry? Did your father in law die in 1977 in Chesterfield by any chance? If these details match what you have, I think I may have found the family quite easily. If you tell me that any of these fact match what you know I will post what I have found.

rootgatherer Report 18 Apr 2011 09:51

Janey to try to clarify a bit.

Yes you are correct that the birth and death details of that Lucy Ann match.

Here is the details (we think) of the other Lucy Ann.

So, we have 2 Lucy Ann Wrights born within a year of each other in the correct area.

Births Sep 1895 Wright Lucy Ann Basford 7b 186 <<<(This is the one that we think that Poodles has the birth cert. for)

Births Mar 1896 Wright Lucy Ann Basford 7b 260

There seems to be only one of them who married and this looks like the death of the other one.

Name: Lucy Ann Wright
Birth Date: 30 Jun 1895
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Ilkeston
Inferred County: Derbyshire
Volume: 3a
Page: 1175

What Dea and I are having difficulty following is that Poodles has said that the date of birth on the certificate for William's Lucy Ann match that of the death of Lucy Ann Francis.

We need Poodles to tell us the exact date of birth on that birth certificate she has.

I'm still confused. Isn't this death

Name: Lucy Ann Francis
> Birth Date: 13 Feb 1896
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Nottingham
Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
Volume: 3c
Page: 780

a perfect match with this birth

Births Mar 1896
Wright Lucy Ann Basford 7b 260

?

Btw, my mother's mother's mother's family is from Calverton way back -- Coopers and Smiths. ;)

I'd like to try to help (I think everybody else is asleep) but I am having a * of a time following your posts, poodles! A comma occasionally, a period -- but most importantly, can you break your posts up as we do with some white space between thoughts? Hit "Enter" twice to make paragraphs. Your post above is one single sentence!

these birth certificates for Lucy Ann Wright are driving us round the bend

as you have all very kindly pointed out I have the wrong certificate for Lucy Ann Wright
I have the Lucy Ann born for 1895 in Heanor Derbyshire with William as her father, & with your help i now realize I need Lucy Ann Wright born Calverton Nottinghamshire in 1896 with John as her father

the trouble is I can't find a record for Lucy Ann Wright born 1896 with a father John

I know you have given me Lucy Ann Wright Vol 7b page 260 Basford Notts but was this found on Genes Reunited & do I give General Registry the information you have been good enough to find for me,

one more thing do I have to give calverton as lucy Ann's birth place or Basford

It comes from FreeBMD which you need to get acquainted with!

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

and yes, that's the info you use to order the certificate. You give Basford as the registration district where the birth was registered.

Dea keeps saying 1885 and 1886 which is confusing me even more. It's 1895 and 1896, right?
