The user's correction says:

America rather than United States
The entry clearly does not say United States. It says America which *may* -- or just as equally, may *not* -- mean the U.S. This is an habitual error in the UK censuses, ie. changing the word America in the original entry to United States in the transcription, based on the false assumption that the word America always means the U.S. The transcript should reflect what the entry says, not change it according to what the transcribers assume it means. I have no connection here and no further info.

(That's correct, as you will sometimes see it meaning Canada, in early censuses in particular. This time it seems to be correct.)

Ta, Astra. So according to that, Elizabeth is still living, although unfortunately it seems Nellie is the only living child (unless she was deceased and another child had survived).

Possibly Elizabeth was living with Nellie. If we knew *whom Nellie had married*, that could be a help ...

The only child I know about to Elizabeth Thomson, was Nellie Grace b.1875
In the 1911 census William was a boarder in Jersey, showed he was married, but no wife on the census.

Ann, if you have her father's name from her marriage certificate, you have his occupation, unless for some reason she didn't state it.

You said you had them in the 1880 census in the United States, but you won't tell us where, or who is in the household.

You mention the daughter Nellie, but you won't tell us whether she had other children or when or where they were born.

We aren't mind readers, and if you want help finding more info, you have to give us all the info you have. How could we help find *more* info if we were starting with *less* than you have now??
