Hum.... interesting......
This idea works with Annie Wills Thompson... who was listed as Hennie.....

but.... I wasn't so sure with Jessie Catherine and Jessie Caroline....
Viewed a census and a marriage certificate......

both have moms named Elizabeth...... which seems to support the idea
not sure it the area of residence is the same..... so doesn't support...

perhaps I need to study it further....
your thoughts??

jax Report 5 Apr 2011 18:03

It was a lot of mistranscribed names back then and also I would imagine they forgot half the time what middle names they gave thier children, in some cases thier first names lol

Or they changed thier names to suit whatever they fancied being called at the time

I have said this before but my grand mother had the middle name of mary on her birth cert....when she married not only did she now have two middle names but it had now become Gertrude Ellen???

jax is right. I meant to include in my answer that people change their names, add to their names, subtract names continuously.

Also it will depend on who the informant is and the knowledge they have, or the questions the informant is asked.

My great-aunt married twice. One cert has her as plain Jane Smith, one has her as Jane Ethel Smith.

I keep on trying to find them in 1911. Not having any luck. Strange.

adriana

adriana Report 7 Apr 2011 01:51

i believe that in early 1910 they resided at 87 Boleyn Rd, Islington, London

and later

at 8 Garringham Street, Stokes Newingtom, North Hackney, London....

Got that from ancestry at England Schools, Directories, and Church Histories.

Strange that they are not in the census.....

Hi Patchem~
This is interesting. On the actual birth certificate the address is 8 Garnham Road.... but on the transcribed paperwork from ancestry the address is 8 Garingham Rd....... this paperwork also shows a spot marked on a map showing the location is in a triangular area between High Road, Evening Road, and Northwood (or Northworld) Road. A bit blurry. This is in the area called Stokes Newington, North Hackney. I wonder if perhaps the roads have been renamed....

Also... I believe they moved to Garnham (sp?) Road at the end of 1910.... so that may be why they are no longer at Bolyn Rd in 1911.

Hi Chris~
This is also interesting. Most of the information is in alignment with what i already know. Arthur Maidwell is the son of Mary Ann Maidwell and the birthplace is Hackney. However the birth year is off on the transcribed part.... yet looks correct on the image..... I have Dec. 1883 as well. There are so many Arthur Maidwells b 1883 or 1884... difficult to determine which one.
The one you listed above lives on Shacklewell Lane in Hackney... I also have one in Hackney, the address is Caroline Cottages number 5. There is another one in Clapton, West Hackney.
Arthur died in 1913 or 1914..... I wonder if there is an obituary somewhere.... maybe there would be additional information on it.

There is a Garnham Close running parallel to High St near Northwold Rd in Stoke Newington but not having any luck with 1911.

adriana Report 9 Apr 2011 05:59

Garnham Close sounds like a possibility. Its the closest thing to Garnham I've seen so far...... Thanks...

I know they had a child in July 1910 and another in 1912..... Arthur dies of TB in 1913 or 1914...... Can't imagine why they are not included in 1911 census...

I was vaguely looking at addresses in 1911, and clicking on households. A couple are down as Mr Smith and Mrs Smith. Makes identification rather difficult. So with not clear Garnham and mis-spelt Maidwell it is quite easy to hide.

adriana

adriana Report 10 Apr 2011 07:46

I don't think they were hiding........ I think the street called Garnham Close that Ozibird listed above sounds like it could be the correct street. They were newlyweds.... expecting their first child July 1910. The puzzle slowly evolves....
the search goes on.

patchem

patchem Report 10 Apr 2011 07:54

There is no Garnham Close showing in 1911. Thus they are hidden. Incorrect spelling of address, their name, combination of factors.
What was his occupation, as we can try a search that way also?
Thanks

Looks good, even if it is Latimer Road.
Was the second child born as Maidwell or Maple?

Added: It was Maidwell (second child), so were they trying to hide? Debtors?
