I am searching for the parents of a woman who [according to family legend] had been disinherited by her parents. There are many possible reasons for this. Her parents are aristocrocy and she could have rebelled at their choice of husband for her. Another is that she married a Music Hall entertainer and became part of a Music Hall act. They are they main two reasons.

No-one can even begin to try to help without names, dates and location...........................

Have you made any searches yourself?

Flick

Flick Report 28 Mar 2011 16:41

Why do you think the parents were 'aristocracy'......if you don't know who they were?

I think this one calls for Mystic Meg.

Well, we do know the surname. ;) Look up, look way up ...

Now we just need a century, a place ... a full name ...

I suspect Alan thought that only other Gunters would be reading this post.

Thanks for your remarks. The child, Annie Gunter, is believed to have been disinherited by Colonel Sir Robert Gunter 1st Baronet, when she married an Irish entertainer named John Henri. She is in Leeds on the 1881 Census.

Annie Gunter [b.1843] is on the 1881 Census. I had to put her husband's name in, John Henri. He is not there but they had a child by that name. They were living at 17 Dundas Street, Leeds, Yorkshire.

There's no such Annie Gunter in the 1851 or 1861 census that I can see.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 28 Mar 2011 18:13

Robert Gunter in 1851

Name: Robert Gunter
Age: 19
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1832
Relation: Pupil
Where born: Kensington, Middlesex, England

Civil parish: Putney
County/Island: Surrey

and in 1841:

Robert Gunter 52
Jane Gunter 30
Robert Gunter 9
James Gunter 7
Margaret Mande 28
Civil parish: Kensington

It's conceivable that Robert Sr was the father of an Annie 1843 ... but not Robert Jr. And these people don't seem to be anywhere near Leeds.

Alan

Alan Report 28 Mar 2011 18:14

Her birth date could be wrong, but they look related as John Jas. Henri was born at Wetherby in 1870 when Robert Gunter lived at Wetherby Grange. Perplexed why she should be there if disinherited. Had she been forgiven?
