Hi Any information prior to 1891 census gratefully received
George King - Born c1842 married to: Emma (don't know maiden name) - Born c1852 Children: Amy-1874, George-1876, Charles-1879, Emma-1881, Celica-1883, Susan-1885-1949, Lilian-1888, Henry-1889, Frank-1891
The family have been identified on the census for 1891 and 1901 but haven't been able to find them on the 1881 or anything before then. It appears that they were in the Islington, London area most of their lives as they were all born in that area
Susan (1885-1949) is my Great Grandmother.
Many thanks, Michelle

I've also found some information on the 1911 census which I'm uncertain about - so if any GR experts could help clarify that would be fantastic.
1911 census Emma Jane King - age 59 - Head - Widow - 14 children/9 living - monthly nurse - born; Bristol, Somerset Katherine Sarah - age 34 - daughter - trained nurse - born; middlesex Henry Donald - age 22 - son - butcher Frank Leslie - age 20 - son - fish porter Living: 231 Hornsey Road, Upper Holloway, Islington
Is this our Emma King? and Who is Katherine Sarah who has all of a sudden appeared? Is this our Henry and Frank as a Henry and Frank of same ages also appear on other 1911 census information (see below)?
1911 census Frank King - age 19 - Private Royal Fusiliers Henry King - age 21 - Private "F" COY, 2nd Bn. The Welch Regt

You definitely need a birth certificate. The one posted for Susan looks the only likely one for your great grandmother. I was trying to find Celica-1883, is this correct for year (I have tried different spellings)? If the 1911 census is correct, they married 1869/1870. Thanks

Chris - yes, Susan Gertrude is my Gt Grandmother
Choccy - 1891 census - I'd missed that a Stepfather and cousin was listed. On 1911 census there is a Katherine Sarah but she is listed as daughter not a cousin and down as King not Dacres. I'm wondering if this is the same family or not because I'd always had Emma c. 1852 down as being born in Islington but then on 1911 census there is an Emma (with similar details/family) but down as being born in Bristol
All very confusing ... I'm new to this ... and am finding this one a bit of a tangle :-)

Dear Patchem
Apologies ... my dodgy typing :-D ... Celica - should read Celia b1883 - I think the year is there or there abouts giving a year or two as she had one sister Emma born in 1881 and another sister Susan born in 1885

Patchem
The address 22 Andover Road is tieing in - Marian is a new name I haven't come across before.
Also GlitterBaby identified an Emma Celia King as being baptised in 1882 - I thought for one (crazy) moment that they were one and the same person - but I don't know - on 1891 Emma is listed and not Celia and on 1901 Celia is listed and Emma isn't ????
oooo think my head may explode :-D

As George is born about 1842, possibility that he has been previously married. If 41 years in 1911 is incorrect, and marriage is really just before Amy's birth in about 1873, then in 1871 census he can be with a different wife.
