thank you for letting us know the progress. Brick walls often get smaller as you get more experience in where to look but do come back with any problems. Your Shepherd family did not make it easy for you |

MadBull and LancashireAnn, Just thought I'd let you know that at long last have sorted out the 2 spouses of Walter Shepherd and some of their ancestors which I wouldn't have been able to do without your help ,advice and suggestions. Have joined Ancestry (V good) and sent for marriage certificates which helped me to make progress. Have learned alot more so hopefully will not cause such confusion again and hope I can come back to you again if I hit another brick wall- hopefully not as high and thick as the last one!!! thanks so much for your kind patience and help. Chris Shepherd-ps can you see my tree? |

anastasia, forgot to tell you have puchased marriage cert. for \sarah Chapman and Walter \shepher should arrive beginning of week. The James Shepherd of Salford I don,t understand. Dad's brother James (Jim)was born before my dad (1924) and before George so must have been born c1920. He could have been born woodhouse ro dinnington but NOT salford.. at the beginnining (page3 I think) shows children being born before walter and sarah's marriage -worksop 1927- hence the shepherd chapman tansell isuppose as DS arh was nee Tanswell married first to Charles Chapman c1914- then Walter Shepherd 1927. This is complicated this shepherd family chris |

Anastasia, I don't understand the above as Jack Shepherd is my dad and has always (according to my mum) been Jack and never John.He always lived in Dinnington (Rother Valley then kiveton Park now Sheffield) His mum Sarah Elizabeth was nee TaNswell (not M) 1st married Charles Chapman then my grandad, Walter Shepherd. Can I get access to this bmd entry myself to have alook? regards chris shepherd |

lancashieAnn thanks for the info. re Ancestry Have subscribed for a 2 week free trial and have found out today that my local library does indeed have free access to it. So if I just use it @ home for 2 weeks will I be able to keep building on a tree that I will have started during this 2 wk period? Now hold your breath and you too madBull. I HAVE FOUND WALTER SHEPHERD'S 1st WIFE ALL BY MYSELF!!!!! well sort of. I spoke to a cousin weeks ago who insisted she only had her father's death certif. SO, because she was an only child I thought it most likely that she did have birth cert. also. So I plucked up courage to phone her again and at last she relented and said she'd go through the papers in her attic. 2 hours later she had it and gave me the 1st wife's name - Edith Camden from Woodhouse, Sheffield. Then thanks to Ancestry last night I found for 99% sure walter's parents and siblings and possibly ediths. I did send off for marriage cert. for walter and sarah,s marriage as you kindly gave me the info needed (not arrived yet) and so can send off for ediths & walters- Worksop 1914. Now I need to find out all 3's death dates. Hvae been to local cemetry today but the stones of walter and sarah have long gone.Couldn,t find any records on ancestry last night but am going to try again tonight. Thankyou both for sticking with me all the very best ( and I don't suppose this will be the last you hear from me - Chris Shepherd |

mmmmmmmmmmm! someone else I have had cotact with in the early days of my genealogy experience uses that site to build up her tree. It is more expensive than GR but I do believe they do a free 2week trial. I might give it a go cos I,m getin nowhere now in gr records.I'll not pester you anymore tonight but will be in touch if/when I find something exciting on either Shepherds or Riests chris |

no MadBull just another slip of my old fingers on the keyboard, it was Jarvis.Do you use the gr census info or do you use another site? I have also looked for hours on the later day sts. site( I,m not usually this thick I think the Shepherd ,Chapman .Tanswell and Riest thing is playing with my head. thanks for your patience - and intelligence chris |

Christine, you said that Charles' father was James when actually it's Jarvis on all of the censuses. Perhaps you were typing in James for father's name and that's why you couldn't find him. |
