Do you have a copy of the divorce papers please? It was quite unusual for a woman to obtain a divorce at that time. It may tell you if a third party was involved. |

Do we know what donalds dads name is??? i know its a common name but i have lots of macintosh's im trying to find in alston/arthuret cumbria. Charles Macintosh married a margaret teasdale there in 1774, and went on to have lots of children including sarah, hannah, francis, james, hannah(again), margaret, william, john, frank etc etc. . His son francis named one of his sons donald, but he was born in 1809 in great harwood where the moved to after alston in cumbria. Can anyone help with finding a death for ccharles macintosh born in 1850 and his wife margaret nee teasdale born 1850 ish also. Last known in alston around 1793 , as last child, charles , was buried there. Lost them after that . |

In the 1922 marriage of my grandparents his father Donald was not shown as deceased. This may be because they did not know if he was dead or alive. In Court documents (Divorce) it stated his wheareabouts were unknown but belived to have returned to Forres, Scotland. He was in England in 1906. An acrimonious divorce and as far as I am aware Donald McIntosh abandoned his wife and son. Divorce was quite rare in those days. In 1922 Donald would have been 55. I know there is a second Donald McIntosh also born in Forres but in 1869 - this is a different person. Catherine Carnegie lived in Coatbridge Dundyvan Road where she died. My father was born in the same house. Bill McIntosh |

Thanks everybody. All the info previously posted is correct as I have the relevant Birth, Marriage, Death and Divorce certificates. I have all I need for the family tree except the death of Donald McIntosh. He was in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria at Grimes Hall and possibly working as a Butler. He had been a butler in a number of houses in Scotland prior to that. He was divorced by 1906 when he registered his place of residence as Grimes Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale on the death certificate of Jane McIntosh his sister. He definately moved to England. There is no trace of him in Scottish records after 1906. He therefore died outside Scotland. I am looking for a record of his death in England and possibly if he remarried. As a Butler he moved about so in 1911 census he could be anywhere in England. Thanks everybody for your time. Bill McIntosh |

What is his occupation in the 1897 marriage. You may have to wait until 1911 full census come on line.Scottish one in April.English one is on Find my Past, but should be coming on Ancestry soon.As Catherine and Donald are seperated soon after marriage ,you could look for a poor relief in Laurenceskirk,Kincardinshire. |

Whilst there are 4 ways to spell McIntosh, Mackintosh, MacIntosh and McKintosh, this line of the family has always been McIntosh. Donald could write and on certificates Donald signs his name McIntosh. His Uncles and aunts 10 of them had different variations. His Grandfather was Hugh McIntosh and grandmother Janet McDonald. Depending on who could read and write and what the registrar wrote the spelling of the surname varied. The data above comes from official documents which I have copies of. This data is correct. He disappears from Scottish records and as there is no trace of him dying in Scotland I can only assume he died in England or elsewhere. |

Donald McIntosh was born 26/11/1867 at 17 North Street, Forres, Elgin, Scotland. Father Donald McIntosh and mother Janet Smith. In 1897 he married Catherine Carnegie in Glasgow - shotgun marriage. His son my grandfather William Douglas McIntosh was born 10th August 1897. On 7th march 1903 Catherine obtained a divorce. Donald's occupation was Butler. The next record I found was in 1906 when he signed the death certificate of his sister Jane in Forres. On the certificate in 1906 his residence was shown as Grimes Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale which I believe is in Cumbria. I suspect he stayed in England as there is no record of his death in Scotland. He may have remarried in England and had another family. I would be grateful for any information. Bill McIntosh |

Mike - to me "between" implies it's in neither. |
