I am trying to obtain info about my birth mother Edith (Edie) Clark. I know very little about her except that she was in the army in 1940's. That she did marry and adopt a child. I have searched marriage records but there are so many Edith Clarks. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could find out who she married with so little info. also i am thinking that death records would be in the womans married name. Any ideas welcolme |

When you say she was in the Army in 1940's do you know whether that was the regular army or the Land Army? It was in 1941 that single women aged 20~30 were first "Called Up" for war work. |

Cannot see any Ediths with that dob that have died up until 2005 unless it was before 1969 she died or after 2005 of course |

thanks for looking that up. I thought there might be a way of finding the marriage record but it is difficult to find as they dont have the persons age on them. - unless you pay for the certificate. I did send away for one marriage cert with Edith E Clark married in the army but unfortunately was not the right one. |

What if her name was Edie rather than Edith? |

the information re being marrying and adopting a child came from a living relative who years ago had contact with Ediths sister Evelyn. Evelyn has since passed away. |

yes it is Edie on the birth certificate but on my birth cert it is Edith so I assumed she would use edith on marriage cert - not sure though |

Thanks everyone for your help. I am almost sure that Edie didnt die before 1969 but could of course have done so after 2005. so any ideas how I would find this out. I have a feeling it comes down to getting a married name first. . |

I did hear that she travelled overseas a fair bit is there any way I could find info on this. I guess it would depend if that was in her maiden or married name. Is there a place I can search army records from 1941 |

WW2 army service records are not currently online anywhere. The records are only currently available to the individual themselves or their next of kin if the individual is deceased. |

I have Edie or Ediths birth cert thanks Jonesey. she was born in alton as per your first notice. Edie Elizabeth clark. I need her marriage details now. or army info. I found one overseas (army) marriage for an Edith E Clark in 1944 and sent for the cert it wasnt her. |

Grasping at straws I know but as the forename and birth date tally I think that I would be tempted to obtain a copy of the 1984 death certificate that I noted above. |

I was thinking that was a birth cert.(didnt actually read it properly) yes I think you are right that could be worth a try. how did you find that. i would be interested to know if you can search with just the first name and where you searched. |

The death registration was found on Ancestry where it is possible to search using just a forename and an actual birth date (As it appears on the register). |

Thanks for suggestions and info. I am in Australia hence leaving the discussion at 3am in the morning here. sounds like i should join Ancestry if you can search first name with date of birth. i wonder why they havent picked that up on here. |
