What address did he give on the marriage cert.? |

The adress on teh birth certificate is given only as Sandhill, Tonbridge Rural (no street or house number). The adress on his marriage certificate in 1932 is 16 Golding street, Tonbridge Wells. |

I got quite excited at this one, even though place of birth doesn't fit. |

That happens a lot.... I am coming to the conclusion that there are some interesting issues here that I just can't quite unearth. I am hoping that once the 1921 census is out I may be able to get a hit and start again! |

The mother (Greenwood) in the 1911 found by Catherine looks to be the mother of Henry Smith. Could this have been a second marriage for her? |

The workhouse at Sandhill was part of the Tonbridge Union and the surviving records are at the Centre for Kentish Studies in Maidstone, Kent |

thanks for all the work this morning - its great to know there are people out there who are willing to help - even if we don't make progress on this particular problem. |

As there is no father's name on the birth cert. then it is possible that Henry was illegitimate, in which case it is very likely he was born in a Workhouse. |
