If, as you say, she is in a pauper's grave, there won't be headstone, so no chance of learning her DOB.

If age at death is accurate....birth more likely to be 1915....certainly no later than JFM 1916

Worth a try I'd say. You might also try the local papers at the library though might not be any notices if a "paupers" funeral.
I would google search the cemetary firtst as you might find details of what services they offer re. looking for burials.

Hello Doris.

I suggested Lavinia Road as it sounds more likely and with older writing S and L can look quite similar. There is a Lavinia Road in Dartford too.
The only way of checking occupants for this time is to look at the electoral register, which obviously in 1938 would show people over 21. Records will be at the nearst main library. You have to search these in person or ask the staff to do a check for which they might charge.

Be aware there were no electoral registers taken during the war.

Probably of no help but the address might be Lavinia Road I think.

Doris if you tell us who the witnesses on the marriage certificate were too it could help

chrissiex Report 21 Feb 2011 02:18

mistranscription at freebmd doesn't help

Marriages Sep 1918
Brackley Horace Humphreys Aylesbury 3a 2236
HUMPHREYS Alice Brackley Aylesbury 3a 2833

just because the name Horace Brackley is rather unusual and I thought it might be worth noting.

... actually searching at freebmd Horace Brackley was a rather popular name, lol

that marriage looks like the Horace born 1892 in Aylesbury ... he died in WWI in Dec 1918 ..... after the war ended !

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=555457

Son of George and Emma Brackley, of Chivery, St. Leonards, Tring; husband of Alice Brackley, of Cholesbury, Tring, >>>> Herts.

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 21 Feb 2011 01:56

HER FATHER WAS GEORGE HORACE BRACKLEY

.... except there is no record of that name (birth marriage death) in the GRO index ...

I suspect her birth was registered under a different surname and George Horace Brackley is a name patched together because her parents weren't married, for example

there are two deaths for a George H Brackley

George H Brackley 1929 Wycombe Buckinghamshire aged 69
George H Brackley 1933 Aylesbury Buckinghamshire aged 62

jax

jax Report 21 Feb 2011 01:22

On the birth registration it just says Hemel Hempstead....so do these people know more by saying Bovingdon? It is worth asking if you hav'nt already.

If you are thinking it is not the correct person because her middle name began with a "L" I would'nt worry about that because my grandmother had the middle initials" G E" on her marriage cert when it should have been a "M"

Just had another look at those trees and the same two people who have Alfred have all three Doris's in their tree??? so I would'nt ask them

I have found this tree on ancestry so the Australian one does not look like yours either

Doris Brackley
Birth: 30 Aug 1915 - Inglewood, Vic (Victoria)
Death: 18 Apr 1995 - Bendigo, Vic (Victoria)
Marriage: 18 Jul 1932 - Inglewood, Vic (Victoria)
Spouse: Leonard Victor Yates

Could you tell us what Doris;s fathers occupation was plus the names of the witnesses on the marriage cert

Just thought I would add though, I take it you have searched the trees and found Doris born in Australia?? have you contacted the tree owners to see if she came to England at some point?

There are 2 people with Alfred Jarvis and Doris Brackley in their tree and both say she was born 1917 in Bovingdon Herts?? which I would think is the mmn Baker

Why not just purchase her marriage cert then you will have her father's name.
