Hi Chrissie I have received both marriage certificates 1- Doris Briddon and Thomas FrancesBrothers 2- Mary Briddon and Thomas Albert Lawrence
on both certificates it staes that their father was William Briddon ( so am assuming they have the same father)
Doris was born in 1912 and Mary in 1902 They both lived in London at time of marriage
But I am wondering if they were born in London? or elsewhere?
Any help from anyone would be great, as I am a bit stuck.
Thanks Margery

hello Margery, I'm sorry I haven't been around and didn't see your earlier post, very glad that the name you got did pan out.
Marriages Mar 1935 Briddon Mary Lawrence Westminster 1a 691 Lawrence Thomas A Briddon Westminster 1a 691
very fortunate that you have that record with Thomas's middle name ... this is the only birth after 1900 up to 1911 with that same full name and it is in the right area
Births Dec 1904 Lawrence Thomas Albert Hackney 1b 553
hard to pick out a matching death, maybe
Name: Thomas A Lawrence Birth Date: abt 1906 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1968 Age at Death: 62 ( one year too young ) Registration district: Hackney Inferred County: Greater London Volume: 5b Page: 724
I would certainly agree that the Brothers marriage seems a good fit.
I wonder whether this is the husband's death
Name: Thomas Francis Brothers Birth Date: 30 Jan 1904 Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1979 Age at Death: 75 Registration district: Ogwr Inferred County: Mid Glamorgan Volume: 27 Page: 0687
Births Mar 1904 Brothers Thomas Francis Islington 1b 180
but I don't see a death for a Doris Brothers about the right age, no middle initial
I am still confused about why David's daughter has so little information about him, was she never in contact with him during his life ?
I think the chance that Doris and Mary are UNrelated is probably about zero so I would certainly get Mary's marriage certificate to find her age and father's name ... if she was born before 1911 we could find her in that census to see whether Doris was born ... and find Mary's parents' marriage and then if Doris was born after 1911 we could find that birth using her mother's surname ...

there's a few Mary and Doris Briddon births listed so getting those marriage certs will hopefully give their ages to help narrow the search and will (fingers crossed) give their father's names

seems possible, only getting Mary and Thomas's marriage cert will tell
do you need help finding their marriage? (it was in 1935)

Thanks everyone for your help, hope its ok to ask but I need a bit more help on this a certified copy of entry in the adopted childrens register and got the following inromation back David Lawrence -date of entry 15-Apr 1936 Adotped parents Thomas Albert Lawrence and Mary Lawrence (Nee Briddon), they lived in Brixton. Does anyone think thta the connection between Mary (Briddon) and David's birth mother (Doris Briddon) could be related. I am thinking thta maybe I should apply for a marriage certificate for Thomas and Mary? as this may give me a bit more information or does anyone think this could be a waste of time?, but I am wondering if there is a connection between Mary and Doris. Thanks in advance Margery

I doubt very much that you will be able to get the adoption record, for reasons laid out earlier in this thread

you're welcome, it does look like a really good probability, if the actual birthdates do match you would have a virtual certainty so I would say go ahead and post the info here if so and we can lend a hand further if you need.

Hi Chrissiex Thank you for this information. I have ordered the birth certificate.
My daughter in law was in contact with her dad, but he never said anything, apparently her mother had loads of his papers but wont hand anything over, so the information you have given does seem really promising.
Many thanks to you and everyone for help with this.
I will let you know how it turns out once the certificate is received.

if the birthdate is accurate ... there were 5 Briddon births registered in the last quarter of 1933
I will not put them here as the people could be living but search at freebmd
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
specifying Dec quarter 1933 and you will find them ... always look in freebmd
2 were in London and 3 were in Derbyshire ... actually only one was a boy and that was David in London ... this could seem promising
although he died in Northamptonshire does no one know where he lived during his life ? your daughter in law was not in touch with her dad ?
this is looking quite promising
there is no death for that David Briddon
there is no marriage for a David Briddon ( with no middle name ) that would seem to match up ... there are marriages 1947 and 1960 in Lancashire but I would guess they are both the David born 1923 in Lancashire ...
find the birth at freebmd and that will give you the mother's surname and you will see that this birth does seem a very good candidate
the information at freebmd will also give you the details you need for ordering the birth certificate here

After all this time my daughter in law and i think that david lawrence could have had a surname of Briddon, so am hoping that this may lead to some information on her dad, on the other hand it may be a wild card, but we just dont seem to be getting any where. Any advice is always appreciated
Thanks margery
