A family story is that my ancestor Robert Allmand (name varies - Almand, Allman etc) was the mayor of Wrexham, Wales. He was born c1800. Ive looked for him on the list of mayors but that only goes from 1857 and hes not listed. Can anyone help? |

That's because the first Mayor of Wrexham was appointed in 1857 |

If Robert Allmand was born c1800 then he may have been Mayor after 1857. |

I cant find him in the census, the surname varies so much its difficult to trace him. I know he was a publican and a timber merchant aswell. I imagine it was pre-1857. |

Is this where you get your idea that Robert may have married Mary Roberts? |

The census return i havent been able to find! This is very helpful, as i wasnt sure of his second marriage, but the occupation is the same. Although his first marriage was in 1818, so he couldnt hav been born in 1809....... |

If the FIRST wife died in 1829, he couldn't marry in 1826. |

Flick, sorry i gave you the wrong death date, it was 1824, so it does fit. in records he has been down as a Wheelwright and publican. Family say he was a timbermerchant, publican and the mayor of wrexham. |

So if he died 1824 he cannot have been mayor of wrexham. perhaps it was another family member? |
