Susan, please be very careful about believing everything that you find on the web!

Most of us on here have made mistakes by believing what other people have said.

By all means use the tree you have found as a basis but check all the info carefully by buying birth, marriage and death certs and using the censuses.

Oh heavens I am so stupid!!!! I really did not know how many replies I would get and have got into a terrible muddle!! Of course you are quite right Her son Francis Field had all those children. He married Celia Upton in 1848. I think James and Ann (nee Jenner) only had one child Francis Field in 1817

Thank you Potty I will check all the info but I was so pleased to have found some of my relations I suppose I went a bit mad. But I do know that Francis Field and Celia Field (nee Upton) were my relations and so I suppose I assumed that Jamesand Ann (nee Jenner) were too as they were on this family tree. Do I have to apply through the GRO to get certificates?

Potty put up the census for 1861. A few doors away is a James Field 51 year old. Probably son of James Field 1781??

The info isn't too difficult to find, once you know where to look. The census info i available on many sites including GR (although it isn't the best site for searching). These sites are subscription sites that you might find helpful:

www.findmypast.co.uk - subscription but you can buy credits as well

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ this site has birth, marriage and death indexes from 1837 to approx 1940 and is being updated with more records regularly

http://www.familysearch.org/ this site has baptisms and marriages from parish records and is useful for pre1837 (when civil registration started). It includes the IGI (International Genealogical Index) and is where Mel found the baptisms she has posted. There is also a new related site
