ann, thanks again and now have managed to trace back to when herbert was a wee boy. it says his name is herbert j crosthwaite. so maybe the cousin guessed the name! anyway i traced the family and herberts mother, who strangley enough is called florence as was my granmother and gt grandma. she was born in 1860. |

sorry to bring complications again but as all the rest of the marriage births etc are Stockport I think this is more likely to be your Herbert's birh - remember the census was always taken early in the year so the birth year is frequently 1 less than that calculated form the census age |

hi again folks. well i looked at the 1901 census. searched for herbert j crosthwaite born 1887 and there he is with his mother florence and brother dudley. it lists him as herbert j. i know he married lily because thats the info i have m 1907 sep in stockport. |

hi lanc ann, am i just blind or what? but try as i might i cannot find the whole family on 1901 census. on 1881 the spelling is crossthwaite. so i tried that and then just one s but to no avail, not even in 1891 can i see them either? |

I don't have access to census records unless I am in the library or Rec office so had not looked. That 1891 of Christine's certainly fits the family I found on cheshirebmd. |
