Actually I am working off the top of my head here, it might have been Margaret Mulholland (half sister to Lucy Ann Mulholland) that married Wm Sampson's brother, and they had Thomas Sampson who married Bridget reardon, I need to go back to the handwritten tree to be sure! |

Well thats a surprise as William Henry Sampson is brother to Thomas Sampson who married Bridget Reardon daughter to Bridget Campbell (THomas and Bridget being my great grandparents) - we had always been told that this family was very interweaved but I dont think I realised quite how much! |

I missed the 1881 census as well due to the *John*, however I am 98% certain it is the right family as their youngest daughter was Maria, and all the other names match my family history. Again according to this his first daughter and son Margaret and John born to Anne McCrave were sent to live with relatives in Ireland, but it says they were happiest 12 years of Margaret's life, as she then went to join her father and new wife, which would tie in with Thomas marrying Julia Long mid to late 1860's, and they do appear with them on the 1871 census. |

Victoria...This I think is Thomas and family...1881.....Note you will have to check "original" to confirm "John" as Julia.....probably mis-transcribed... |

By the way Julia Mulholland was born in Ireland, so maybe he went back to Ireland to marry her? |

Going back though all my information I know now where I got the name Mary Campbell from, she is on the 1871 census as a widower living with her eldest daughter Bridget and husband James Reardon in Liverpool. |

Victoria...Why dont you check out Nathaniel (Dean St.) that Flick posted yeaterday....There are plenty of Irish sites to check but they can be costly at this stage when you need to be sure of the family and their connection.... |

Is it possible to acces Irish records? as far as I know he married her in Dundalk, and it was there she died in childbirth to the son. I am currently trying to find the Campbell's crossing to Liverpool to see if that might shed some light, at least we would then know when they settled here. |

Erinobragh1916, I have just signed up to the 1911 census and checked the above. Thanks for the tip. His parents are listed as William Fennell and Honora Fennell. On ancestry I have just found their marriage in 1909 |

Thank you so much Flick, I can now see the merits of working backwards. Maybe if I can trace the sisters I might strike lucky and find one of them has the mother living with them, although I guess this will prove more difficult as both Catherine and Mary have question marks against their names which I assume means the author of my family history is unsure of their names, and only the surnames of the husbands.I guess at least I know the offspring of the Fennell line which is another starting point. |
