There is a Richard Cooter aged 63 in Medway Union Workhouse in Chatham on the 1841 census, this would tie in with his son being in the area. He is still there in 1851 aged 75, a widower, it gives Canterbury as his birthplace and tallow chandler as occupation. |

William is still recorded as a Mariner at Henrietta's baptism on August 26th 1855. Have you found Ann's baptism? I couldn't see it in Chatham. |

There is an image of the baptism entry on Cityark but they only named the parents, not who was actually there, at the time. |

On the naval rcords it says that he was on the Cumberland Ship from 16th Feb 51 to 17 Oct 1851 |

At his son William Freythe's baptism William is described as a Mariner. Unlikely to have been in the navy at that time as they were described as RN in the records. |

Ok so I stand total corrected. I just dug out the Williams Naval records and what I origionally thought, was right. |

I shall hunt out the naval records I have and double check where he was in 1851. The naval records did say that he was on a boat in 1848 when he got married. I couldnt work this out but like I say I shall double check. |
