Trying to find the birthplace of Elizabeth Lockhart born around 1869 believe to be in Scotland ?
Her parents may have been Michael Lockhart and Annie m/s McGinlay
Also when her Marriage to James Marshall took place again believe it to be in Scotland
Any help much appreciated

I thought Scottish birth certs gave details of the marriage of the child's parents....................

I dnt know if he was the first or if he was an only child and nothing on the Birth Cert abt any marriage As for other forenames I dnt know Very little is known abt this side of family

Christine, if there is no date and place of parents' marriage on William Sutherland Marshall's birth certificate, then it is most unlikely that his parents were married.

Does it say (in the first column of the certificate) that he was illegitimate please?

There is no birth registered in 1904 in Scotland for a William Sutherland Marshall born in 1904!

So presumably you don't have his birth certificate?

Original posting today is about elizabeth lockhart not william marshall Had an older posting on william marshall

It would certainly seem that the parents were not married....so the chances of finding Elizabeth's heritage are slim. Can't look for her without knowing at least her year of birth

You won't have too long to wait for 1911 Scottish census, which should resolve your queries.

There's no point looking for Elizabeth, with no firm info about birth year, and birthplace.

Guessing that she was born c1869 is not a good basis for a search.......that would have made her 34/35 when the son was born.
