Thanks Lesley, I'll follow up on Keighley as adopted son - could be a lead. Think I've got to accept Keiley not correct spelling - he must have just adopted this when he went to sea in 1904. Tenuous links to Gloucester but this Albert is linked to Oldham and I know he was married there, |

There are no births for Albert Keiley apart from his son in 1909. |

Thanks Jax. Don't think thats him. The extra info I'd added to the deleted thread was that he married Alice Bell in Oldham 1908 and that a link to Gloucester has been unearthed - he was on a ship in 1904 and place of birth stated as Gloucester. |

Is it possible to locate the census entries for workhouses by name of the institution or do you have to search for a name and then discover they were an inmate of a poorhouse? |

I think that one married Alice Mather in Ashton in 1908 |

Trouble is James could well be a made up name and occupation. |

doesn't say deceased on marriage cert although from what I can gather father wasn't around for most of Albert's life so could have been deceased. |

Was James still alive at the time of the wedding or is he down as deceased? |

Don't really know - was hoping for other clues I suppose. someone last night suggested need to look at family relationships that were not visible on freesearch. I am aware that I am clutching at straws and was hoping if I could view the original entry all would become clear! Back to the drawing board then. |

I've spoken to mum and Albert Keiley brought his family to Liverpool around this time. They went in to lodgings in Upper Pitt Street! I have gold membership with Genes Reunited and have been fighting against upgrading to Platinum just to see the 1911 census however curiosity has won and I am either going to upgrade or buy credits on another site - 1911 census seems to hold only info on this little family and hope it can give me more clues to Alberts past. |

Those Keeley's must be them as there is no Alice Keeley born at that time but as you said this one was born 1911 and census says less than 1 year |
