Thank you Chris
I have signed a NRO form to promise I will not publish any of the wills that have been sent to me. So I cant put an image of the latin will on the roots chat site I would have to try and work out the spelling of the words and The writing is atrocious, going in columns with lines around blocks of words, and other sentences written in sideways. words crossed out and others added in above etc. its a real mess. However I will have a look to your suggestion. Thanks.
Many thanks

You could try Rootschat for help with deciphering the Latin will.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,425.0.html
I struggle with Latin probate clauses so a whole will would find me a gibbering wreck in a corner! :-D

I have transcribed the three John Lyon wills, but not the one in Latin.
Have not been able to afford the fee for the NRO to translate it for me.
I have been able to find out that the will for the John Lion proved 1598 mentions he is a Yoeman.
And the brother Richard Lyon of Weekley Nths was Inst. 1 June 1633 as B.A. Rector of BArnwell St Andrew. Thats when his brother was Vicar of Weekley in 1633. Source "Northamptonshire and Rutland Clergy from 1500." Volume 7-9 by Henry Isham Longden, Joan Wake.

I have been looking into the Weekley / Oakley connection.
From Freereg Uk I found their list of parishes that have the records transcribed.
And the parishes of Weekley, Little Oakley, Geddington, and Newton in the Willows have NOT been transcribed YET.
How should I go about finding these records if they have not been transcribed yet.
Do I have to ask the NRO for another search again ? or would it be better to ask the Northampton family history society to help look at the documents ?
any suggestions please

I am in the process of typing up the wills, ie transcribing them, to save on paper and computer. The Lyon of BArnwell one is going to be the hardest to work out as it is will and deposition, very badly scribbled hand writing and also in Latin.

The will for John Lyon the baker of Kettering has arrived.
its amazing to cover 2 pages and a Codocil
and 2 pages of an inventory of his possessions and belongings.
it mentions his grandson John; son of his son John. his young daughters Mary, Anne and Martha his married daughters Eleanor, Grace, and Elizabeth.
it mentions Goosepasture Lane and WoodCroft which are in Kettering.
it does not mention a wife, so it seems that Elizabeth has predeceased him.

A1 John Lyon Married Joan Peach on 06 Nov 1562 in Gretton, NTHS Father of the below ??
A2 another John Lyon who married Alyce/Agnis and was Yoeman in Weekley. Died in 1598 in Weekley and was buried on the 20 June 1598.
I cant find a definite marriage for this couple, but there is a possibility it MAY be John LYne and Alice Kynning who married on the 26 Nov 1684 at Brington Nths.
John's will points to this couple as my link. children Alyce, Agnis, Mary, John. Brothers Robert and Richard are mentioned in the will too.

now where and when was John the baker born? my guess is he was born about 1670 so I am using that year as a guide.
suggested parents John Lyon b 1636 Weekley and Anne Keepe of Ringstead who married 14 Apr 1662 in Denford.
suggested grandparent ancestors John Lion abt 1604 of Weekley and Mary who married in 1634
suggested great grandparent ancestors John Lyon abt 1580 , died 1641 and Elizabeth Cave who were married 12 Nov 1602 at St Mary the Virgin Weekley.
possible but debateable!

I have received the results of my 2 hour search. the father of my John Lyon bap 1696 seems to be John Lyon the baker of Kettering and his first wife Eleanor Baker who was a widow when he married her 12 June 1695 at Harrington. Nths. Marriage license bond 10 June 1695. John went surety to the bond with William Bosworth. Peterborough License bonds.1695
this John the baker died in 1732/33 and a will has been found for him.
I am in the process of digesting the details and deciding what to do next. the will is in poor condition and unable to be photocopied due to a wax seal.
there is a mention of a sister Eleanor to my John who was baptised in 1696.

Two days ago I Sent a request to the Northamptonshire record archivist
asking them if it would be worthwhile searching for the parents of John Lyon about 1694'5, considering that the parish records for Cranford begin at 1695.
Gave them all the details of this man that I know of.
Still trying to confirm his parentage, because Im not sure if William and Ann are his parents. I hope I get a reply soon

I contacted a person who posted on the Geddington Village Message boards. and had a reply. and we have been in touch a few times back and forth with details.
I have been helping with their Lyon family, in hope that I can find a connection with mine.
they mentioned that one family group were quakers, so I have been looking in the nonconformist records on Familysearch. for any BMD on Lyon with soundex check, and using the dates 1650 - 1720 Big thank you to all who have helped me recently.
