Hi I have since found out from my mother that Cobridge is the place he has stated as living on the marriage certificate, so I now dont have any idea where he was born. There is an address though so will try that route.

I sent a request to various members with trees last night so am waiting to hear back from them. At the moment I guess the only sure way of finding out anything is to apply for his service records, at least that would have his date of birth on wouldnt it.

There are witnesses, but names are not very clear. I will try to decipher and have a look through the electoral roles and see what I can find out.

Thank you to you all for helping me with advice etc.

If you have the marriage cert, who are the witnesses?

What address does he give? You can look that up on old electoral rolls at the local library.

You could call yourself what you liked there were no checks.
Gordon could also be his middle name and not liked his first name?

Gordon definately didnt have a 2nd initial in his name. On marriage cert if was just Gordon - surely he would have to declare on a legal document ?

As far as we know he was definately born in Staffordshire. I have been in touch about trying to get hold of his Service Records, hopefully that should give me a bit more information.

As to where his parents were married, I am at a loss :(

But if he was born say in Dec 1927 and birth not registered until Jan 1928 say, would that work ?

So, where would you suggest I go from here then, how can I find out if Thomas William is his father's name. I looked on free BMD to find a marriage to a Bebbington/Bloor but cant find anything.

Jo :)

He may have made up his fathers name that was not unusual

Age 19 in May 1946 rules out the 1928 birth..........

Joanne

Joanne Report 11 Oct 2010 16:40

Hi yes it is Thomas William on marriage cert and his occupation was commercial traveller

Gordon's age is stated as 19 on the certificate. Marriage date 22nd May 1946 - Muriel's (my nan) 16th birthday !

Thanks :)

I take it that you got Gordon's 'father's' name from the marriage cert?

Can you confirm that Gordon was only 17/18 when he married..............

Joanne

Joanne Report 11 Oct 2010 16:24

Thanks Rose. Neither Gordon or Muriel had middle initials. I think Bloor birth was registered Jan/Feb/Mar 1928 and there is a Bebbington registered in Jan/Feb/Mar 1927, just need to try and find out for definate which one it is.

If he was born in Cobridge then it could be the Bloor birth. There's no middle initial on the marriage.

Ok I have a bit more information - what I have to date is

His name was Gordon Price, he was born in 1927/1928. He was in the army, North Staffs Regiment - I can provide his army number later when my mum calls me if that helps. He was born in Cobridge, Stoke on Trent and his father was Thomas William Price.

He married Muriel James on 22nd May 1946 and had a daughter Kathleen in November 1946. He left when Kathleen was 3 years old. We believe he then went on to marry again, possibly having a son called David and 2/3 more children.

That I am afraid is everything that I have.

Any help at all would be appreciated so so much.
