I know that Ann died in 1908 through shock from burns after falling into a fire which had no grate infront of it. She was 90 years old. She was living in the same road as her son Francis George but 12 doors down as a lodger. If I can piece together Ann's life then I might be able to find out more about her children & if she was actually married to Charles etc.

Yes Dee it was John & Ann Collier who she was with in 1871.

Oh dear poor Ann....being burnt...how horrible.

I think the worst part about it was that when she was found they could smell burning & found her hair singed & her head burnt so they applied oil & sent for the Dr. She was then admitted to the hospital suffering from shock from the burns & died the next day. I wouldn't have thought applying oil would've helped too much.

Oh God bless her, what an awful thing to have happened to her. It sounds like she was quite a feisty lady though, living an independent life at the age of 90 back then....... one blessing though is that she didn't end her last years in the workhouse, suffering like so many others did.

That marriage you found for George Francis Boulton with Mary Ann Boulton as one of the witnesses is not the right one as I have just realised I have his birth certificate. Her maiden name was Day but I still think they could be related to my Boulton's as the names George.Francis & William run through the Boulton side.

I would think that was the last place she would want to be when she died as she had her son Harry in the workhouse in Slough, but there is no clues from there just an entry to say that she was in there. I haven't found him after the 1861 census either yet so thats another one I have to try & find.

Oh Lorraine, I really don't envy you with this one.......... I've had a good look about and I can't see Harry. A couple of possibles for William G and Mary A.... but nothing conclusive and definitely nothing linking them with their father Charles.

On Harry's birth cert did it confirm Charles as his father? Did it also state his occupation?

Dee there is no father on the cert so there is no occupation it just says born 23rd april 1856 in union workhouse slough. He is then on 1861 census & thats the last time I can find him.

The only thing I have found on his sister Mary Ann is that she was 4months old on 1861 census but haven't found her birth yet. so no clues there either.

I've been trying to work this lot out for years & it feels like they are probably up there laughing at how long I have actually been trying to find them.

Looking for Mary A's birth this maybe a possibility??;

I didn't see that one but then maybe its because of the spelling.

Its something else to go on but I doubt it will tell me a father as Harry's didn't so I think they might stay on hiding a bit longer so more frustration for me lol.

I agree, I doubt it would state a fathers name. I doubt that Ann conjured up the Boulton name from nowhere, so Mr Boulton must have played a part in her life...... like you stated earlier the 2 births for the elder boys may hold the clues, but finding their births registered maybe the first obstacle to overcome.

Oh the joys of our ancestors, what wonderful webs they weave!!! LOL!!

I tried looking for a death for Charles Boulton but haven't got anything, then I tried looking for anything on a charles Boulton that was in the coldstream guards but still nothing.

I wonder why Ann doesn't have any of her children with her after the closest census that they were born.

George/Francis & William J were on 1851 but not 1861.
Harry & Mary Ann on 1861 but not 1871.

Very strange.

George was with Thomas Tuckey in 1861 but no sign of William J.

I think it gets weirder by the day trying to sort this lot out.

I think more like needles in haystacks!!! I'm off now for a while, watch a bit of telly.

I'll pop back later and have another look about but I think that we're just banging our heads against a brickwall.............. they really covered their tracks!!
