Many thanks to everyone for all their work. It seems that we now know who Louisa Townshend parents were. This means that we are indeed related to William Townshend of Prince Edward Island as Ladykira has discovered. We suspected this but we weren't sure. William Townshend was the Colonial Governor of the island. He has his own Wikipedia page which is helpful. He was thought to be related to Viscount George Townshend the 1st Marquess Townshend but not sure how. Many thanks again!

When did Louisa marry?

I presume you have also seen this? It explains Cecil Wray Townshends name and more about Flora.
http://home.worldonline.co.za/~townshend/william.htm
Hon William Townshend (1762 - 1816) was the son of Richard Townshend of Wexham/Wrexham. Richard Townshend's family connection has not been proved. Click here to read the current research. It is speculated that Richard Townshend was either the younger brother of George, 1st Marquess Townshend or was a brother of Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney.
He married Flora Stewart during or before 1790. She was the daughter of Chief Justice Peter Stewart and Hellon McKinnon. William and Flora had 8 children (Hon) Cecil Wray Townshend (1791 - 1870) Lt. (Capt) William James Townshend (1796 - aft.1833) Peter Stewart Townshend (1798 - ????) John Dalton Townshend (1800 - abt.1873) Ester Wray Townshend (1800 - ????) Charles Townshend (1800 - ????) Helen Diana Townshend (1800 - ????) Canon Rev. George Townshend (1810 - ????)

She married John Richardson from Brixham in Devon. He was part of a shipbuilding/fishing family. Not sure when. He died around 1914 (the family story goes that he fell from a ships mast over board). He left Louisa with about six children to look after and some had to be put in the Brixham Home for boys.

I am a little curious because I know someone of that surname in Plumstead and she thought her Townshend's were famous or important in some way.

Hi LadyKira This is Maria (Helen's daughter) posting on her behalf. Thanks for all your help. We're still trying to digest all this exciting information. My grandmother was Marion Richardson daughter of Louisa Townshend. We didn't think we'd find out anything as interesting as this when we started. If we turn up anything else of interest we will let you know.
